why is limewire taking all my CPU usage up and nearly bringing my pc to a stand still?

Well...since you've (NOT) given us so much info about your OS, Java version, LW version, LW history (whether this has just started happening after installing a certain version of LW) then I wouldn't have a clue.
How could anyone have a clue? If you give us some info then we might be able to help. To find out which version of Java & LW you're using, open LW & click on Help > about LW. |

Is 4.16.6 the first version of LW that you've used, or have you used older versions without the CPU problem?
Which OS are you using? Try updating your Java. Use the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions installed on your computer (via control panel > add/remove programs) before installing the new version. Java SE Downloads If changing Java versions doesn't help, in LW go tools > options > advanced > performance > disable DHT capabilities, disable TLS capabilities, disable ultrapeer capablilities > apply > ok.
