Can't Change My Limewire Options

i'm having the problem where my limewire is opening on it's own, even after i shut it down. so i went to change my options, but the box won't open. every time i try to open my options, it looks like the box is going to open, but it disappears. i tried to get into the options menu by using the configure tab in the library, but it does the same thing. HELP!
I'm running windows xp, and limewire pro 4.12.3, DSL

Sounds like a virus to me. Check WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of! (click on blue link)

no virus

no virus. i scan my computer several times a day to be sure because i do download stuff. I got tired of the problem and just uninstalled limewire. going to reinstall it and see what happens. replies to my post would still be nice though, if anybody has any other suggestions. just in case it happens again, or anybody else has the same problem. thanx

limewire problem

Hi. I'm having the same problem. Uninstalling does'nt fix it.

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

Upon restarting LW you will need to reset all options. Now the two to be wary of are:
1. make sure Tools > Options > System Tray is set to Shutdown Immediately.
2. make sure Tools > Options > Advanced > System Startup is not checked.

Something else that can cause problems is having too many incomplete files, especially if some of them are really fakes files which drives LW crazy, so try Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! (click on blue link)

Oh .. also make sure there is no limewire file in the system start up folder or settings.
And make sure your Java is up to date & properly installed. Online installations with java are risky & known to cause problems. Also having older version Java can cause issues with the newer java.

Same Problem Again

Limewire worked normal for a couple days, but the problem poped up again. Tried going back to the older version of java, deleting the hidden folder and incomplete files, but no luck so far. I've even reinstalled it just to make sure, going through all the steps again, making sure ALL files are gone before i reinstall limewire. But, when I am able to set-up my preferences again after deleting the hidden file, I'm not able to select some of the preferences. Example... I can browse and select which files to share, but not the check boxes below about sharing folders.
Anyways, it's weird. I'm not sure what's going on. Any other tips that might work??? I really like using Limewire!

With the option box that is not showing the buttons at bottom, try grabbing a corner of it & dragging it down. That is a problem that shows up occasionally for some users. ;)

I can see everything, but i can't select it. when i click the box nothing happens like the option is frozen. i can see it, but i can't change it.

All I could really suggest is see Fixes for Limewire (click on blue link). I'm sure one of those option or more than one combined would fix it.

BTW if you have a lot of incomplete files, I would highly recommend Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! (click on blue link) as your incomplete (particularly any fakes) might be causing your LW problems.

Fixes Not Working

There is no Administrator option  the only user is mine. I tried typing it in, but it just gave me an error:mad: Any ideas??? Other than that, none of the fixes worked. I even tried all options in my compatability settings:bangh:
