| Hello everyone! Hopefully someone can help as I would GREATLY appreciate it! Okay, so my friend downloaded limewire on my laptop w/out permission and after discovering I could get music I decided to keep it . Well, I, all of sudden got a virus and I imagine it was from one of the files I downloaded. So I then deleted the files and unistalled limewire. Limewire started to try to open itself but couldn't and in turn this white error message box about not being able to run limewire and java and it has x amount of memory appeared along with a grey error message box that said rundll.exe on the top and some other verbiage [forgive me I cannot remember what it said, as I am not at home ] and now internet explorer will not open. I do not have an antivirus software [more stupidity, i know ] and was wondering if someone knew of anything I could do to fix my hellian of a laptop. Thanx in advance folks! |

| Honestly with the amount of spyware and bugs out there you really need to get some protection on your laptop...There are so many free programs that are just as good if not better than the paid ones... With that being said try this fix... http://www.gnutellaforums.com/231269-post141.html Then install yourself at least 2 or 3 anti-spyware programs and only one antivirus program...Here are some choices.... Anti-virus: avast! AVG free Avira Antivir Antispyware etc: Ad-Aware __(FREE) Spybot - Search & Destroy __(FREE) AVG Antispyware (formerly Ewido) Once you have done that run a full system scan with your AV and then run the Anti-spyware programs....Remember to update them before running them... If you still have problems after that you will need to post your situation at one of these forums for further assistance... | If you not adept at removing malicious software yourself the first thing you should do is backup your data. Pictures, music and so on that you don't want to lose. Next, get out your original Dell restore CD and run it. This will wipe everything off your computer and restore it to a "new" state. Other than that, as mentioned previously, you'll need to contact a professional to get the malicious software removed. You also need to break your "friends" knuckles as a warning to never install software on a computer that doesn't belong to them. Quote:
