1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows XP home
2. What firewalls you have?windows and norton
3. How much ram?2gb
4. Hard Disk space available?20gb
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)Cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?Modem RCA router Lynksys
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?4.12.11
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? tests pass
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New problem... used LW for years now
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Had a brick when LW was turning on.... Now it doesnt so cant tell
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? dont know
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall Norton....
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). USA
This is the message I get when I try to turn LW on

LimeWire was unable to initilize and start. Thhis usually do to a firewall program blocking LimeWire's access to the internet or loopback connection on the local machine. Please allow LimeWire access to internet and restart LimeWire.

thanks in advance

What exactly have you tried??
First off, Turn the Windows Firewall OFF. Using more than One Firewall will cause problems, not more security.
Need to know the model Number of the Linksys Router as they are also known for problems. May need to Forward a Port.
#8. Who is your ISP?? More times than not, your ISP may be throttling P2P.
What Version of Java do you have installed?? The Newest Version is 1.6.6 I believe. Need only ONE Version Installed. Delete ALL of the others through Add/Remove Programs. Then Install the Newest Version.

Just a Few Suggestions.

earth link is my isp.... java is 5.0 update 11. all my firewalls are off. I even uninstalled norton just to check if it was the problem (while norton was out i shut off win FW.)
tried deleting gnutella.net from LW. ETC....
it was working last week. then it coulnt connect (but sometimes it did) and then all of a sudden I was getting that message. I tried upgrading and downgrading LW...
My next one is going to be updating JAVA but seriously i doubt its going to fix it cuz LW was working fine on the Jave i have now....
any More ideas you have...
Oh yeah.... I downloaded ARIES just to see if it connects and it does connect fine....
Its just limewire all of a sudden stoped working

The problem could still be the Linksys Router. Need Model # Please.
Also AOL Might be some of the Problem.

Phex is a Nice Program to try if LW continues to be a PITA.
See Phex in my Sig.
