Default Problems viewing file folders...HELP!!!

I have been using Limwire for about 3 weeks now, but i am unable to view video files in either the "Shared" folder or in the "Video" folder that i created and moved the files to. Even when i pull up Windows Media player 11 and use the "File<open" option, it shows the video files, then crashes.
I saw a post about this in another thread, but it sais to go to another site for answers and the other site is "404 not found"
Please, if anyone is having this problem, please let me know how to correct it, hopefully without losing all the files i have already gathered.
I am using Windows XP home, and Limewire 4.18.8

hmm I wonder if they are 'real' video files. See Movie download issues (click on blue link) & try opening them with this player: VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site)

Default thanks for the reply

They are real video files, as i was able to view the previews of them and even see them immediately after i downloaded them.
But when i launch the Windows media player now, i choose file, then open, and as soon as the folder opens, the system crashes...
even when i go to the shared folder in limewire, it does the same thing.
Has anyone had problems with the version that i am using? My sister uses Limewire 4.13.2 and she has not had any problems, i just did not know if if was better to mover to an older verison, if this was a problem that could be corrected easily without having to lose the videos.

The help is greatly apprecialted.

When you say it crashes, do you mean freezes like 100% CPU until you turn of the computer, or an actual crash i.e. blue screen and error message or just goes blank?

Is there one file in there that you never viewed after download? And if so, did the problems start after that file was opened the first time?

it does not freeze where the system goes 100% down and i have to reboot.
for example, i go into the Limewire shred folder and as soon as the video files come up, the window closes and the desktop icons disapear then after about 30 seconds they all come back up like nothing happened.
but it does the same thing if i try opening up windows media player and choosing "file", "open" and choosing the folder to view the video files as well....the file window closes, the desktop icons disappear, then reappear all over again. It is not freezing the system, just wont let me view the folders. I moved them right after i downloaded them, and it is doing it in that folder as well.

Do you have any other folder where you have video? Something you can try to play and see if the same thing happens.

We need to find out if it's a corruption in Windows or just a corruption in the files from Limewire.

If you have a Windows disk where you can use the repair option, then that would be the first thing to try.

i was able to view the music video files that i downloaded from Morpheus, but they are older. I dont have anything recent, just what i got on Limewire and that is when the problem started. Everyone said it was better so i installed it, and i think it is faster, but i just got frustrated because i didnt know what the problem was with the folders and viewing the videos.
should i uninstall Limewire and intall it again, or should i try using an older version. From what i have been reading on the forums, it seems that the older versions had less problems than the newer versions.

It's at least worth a shot to uninstall Limewire and completely rid your system of it. Use this after uninstalling CCleaner - Home

Then try to see if there are any changes with the folders you can't open.

IMO the older versions pre BitTorrent support are a lot better.

One problem with older pre-bittorrent support LW versions is the newest LW versions will not connect to upload to them. So eventually those users will get left behind. This was brought in during the LW 4.17.4+ beta series; http://wiki.limewire.org/index.php?title=Changelog not uploading to earlier than LW 4.14
