Eek Transferring music files from USB drive to Limewire

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum here, but not new to Limewire.
I did a search using the words of my title and got 249 results and read most of them but didn't find a solution to my problem.

I'm using Limewire v4.18.8 on an HP desktop, Win XP SP3, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB HDD.

I recently decided to try a new registry cleaner which I knew was going to be very aggressive, and I was afraid of losing my music.

So I transferred my entire Limewire music library (not a real lot, about 200 songs) to a USB thumb drive, then ran the cleaner, and as I feared, it wiped out my entire Limewire library.
Nothing to be found anywhere.

But I do have everything on the USB drive, and they were saved properly because when I stick the USB drive in, it lets me play those songs on Windows Media Player... So the songs are there.

So how do I transfer them from the USB drive back to Limewire?

Please do step-by-step if it's not too much trouble.

Thank you.

Some Registry cleaners have the option to reverse what's been done, a save point before the action happened. But at least you backed up which was very wise. Oh well. BTW I'd recommend Crap Cleaner. It's highly recommended at other reknown tech forums.

You need to find your LW shared folder. Check If you updated LimeWire & cannot find your Downloads

Lord OTR,

Some things got restored, others didn't.

Limewire Shared folder is EMPTY.

My Computer > Owner's Documents > Limewire

* Incomplete = EMPTY
* Saved = EMPTY
* Shared = EMPTY
* Store Purchased = (never did)

Is there no easy way to transfer files TO Limewire from USB drive ?

Drag & drop from the device to the location I'd have thought would be easiest. If those folders are empty, then fill them back up. You can double-check looking at LW's library window to see which folders are shared. So open up the Shared folder, drag & drop files from the device mounted on desktop across. Else copy/cut & paste across. LW would need to be restarted to see such files.

Did you only back up your shared files?

Lord OTR,

All I backed up to the USB was my Saved files.

So I dropped and dragged that folder to Limewire Saved and started LW, but when I click on Library and then click on "Saved Files", all it said was "Saved". And when I click that, it brings up my roster of songs in a different window, and they play on WMP.

SO... I went back and drop and dragged my saved into LW Shared, and that now works. The music now plays on Limewire.

So can I get those from LW Shared Files back over to Saved Files where I got them from to begin with ?

Thanks for the help.

Time to go to sleep for work third shift, I'll check back tomorrow.
Thanks again.

Hi dizzy,

I'm not too sure that I understand your problem & so hopefully I won't confuse you here

If you were able to drag the saved folder into Shared & the songs showed up, I don't know why they weren't showing in LW's library when you clicked on Saved to start with.

Do you want to have all of your shared files in your saved folder?

If you want to share everything in your saved folder then the easy way is just to make LW's saved folder the same location as your shared folder. That's the way I have it. If you want to have the same folder for both saving & sharing - in LW go tools > options > sharing. Note the path of your shared folder. Now go tools > options > saving. Change the saved folder location & make it the same as your shared folder location > apply > ok.

Restart LW & you should have the same things showing in your library when you click on saved or shared files.
