I had a previous version of Limewire (4.1) I couldn't get a connection with it to save my life. Finally broke down a purchased the 5 basic. My whole library is on there and I can play those files just fine, but everytime I try to download something new, when I try to play it, a random song from my library plays. I have tried downloading several different songs and it happens everytime. I'm getting extremely irritated and really wish I hadn't forked out the money!!!! I have nothing but problems with Limewire lately.

Who did you pay for LW Basic? If you've only just bought it, contact your bank/CC company & let them know - they may be able to stop your payment or get you a refund. Check out the links below for more info.

If you bought Basic from a scam site, who knows whether you even ended up with a clean version of LW. My advice would be to trash what you have & then download a free Basic LW from the official site. Then post back if you're still having problems with playing files

I guess I should have worded my post better. It was the pro version, but it wasn't the "better" pro version. I am sure I downloaded it from limewire directly.

There's only Pro or Extended Pro... Pro includes 6 months of free updates & email support. Extended Pro includes 12 months worth of updates & support. One Pro's not 'better', the only difference is how long you can get updates & support for

Which player are you using? LW's player isn't very good & most of us here recommend using a different player. If you're using LW's player - disable that (tools > options > My Library. Untick the box to use the LW player > ok.
See whether using another player fixes things
