Once again thanks for responding to my post. I am operating windows XP which is 32 bit. As far as I am aware I am downloading the 32 bit upgrade. I originally downloaded from "file Hippo" have tried other sources with the same problem as I have outlined. Obviously there is some reason it will not unpack the installer, and back tracks, I cannot find any old java. I don't know wether this is anything to do with it but I seem to recall that the java emblem went missing from control panel listings a week or so ago. I have also tried it without firewall. V frustrated . cordially dave
