Help (My limewire ver 5.4.6 wont start)
 

My limewire ver 5.4.6 wont start.
I have a windows xp professional version 2002 service pack 3 computer.
The error reads Limewire was unable to initialize and start....etc.
I have it as an exception in my security tools and I am running Java ver 6.
I have McAfee antivirus software and McAfee anti-malware software.
LW was running up until a few days ago.
Anyone with ideas.

Do a complete delete and reinstall of LW, that might help.

I have done a complete unistall reinstall of LW and Java

Many thanks, but after having done all that... no joy.
One thing that has changed is I get a new error (sometimes) saying that "LW cannot create a temporary preferences. This is generally caused by lack of permissions" etc etc

Anyone else got an idea on how to fix this?

If you haven't already, try deleting LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed (check in Task Manager - if there's a LW process running then end the process). See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later. If you have incomplete downloads that you want to resume, make sure to read post #5 of the thread above!

Do you have Alcohol software installed? If so, look here.
LW starts then close, log: resolve_virtual_call

What firewall(s) are you using?

Have you updated anything to do with your firewall lately?

What's the brand & model of your modem/router?

Can you temporarily disable McAfee's AV/anti-malware & see whether that makes any difference?

Disabling McAfee did the job.

Have a problem with staying connected. I can get connected for a few seconds then it goes to "connecting" and then either stays like that, or tells me I have no internet connection, when I am still online, so the connection is obviously there, but for some reason Limewire is dropping it.

By the way, I hate this new version and would be happy if someone can tell me how to get back to an older version

This time just try restarting it after or try downloading it again I am shore this will helpp....

I have a problem with lime wire I am not sure if I can download a movie on it????

HI, I tried that several times, it did the same thing. On the earlier versions of Limewire, it was stable, but this one is terrible. Any other ideas?
