considering that many programs simply oust the prior edition, i wanted to make sure before i buy pro that i can keep both my completed and incomplete files. is this going to be a problem? Is there something i can do to prevent it? thanks!

No problem on condition you save your downlds outside of the program folder. By default your downlds are saved here: C:\Documents and Settings\"your account name"\
So when you install a new version of LW, all it does is uninstall the previous program & folder at the beginning of installation, & then installs the new version. So yes, your downlds & incompletes should be safe!
