NEWBIE installing LW and cant get information to load in main page

i have installed LW version -4.12.11 -- everything ok until i get to start a search - i enter info in the boxes on left of window and the listing appears in the small box above 'quantity' -- the LW icon starts turning on the right to say its searching and a black highlight slowly covers the small search box --- after the search has been completed nothing appears in the main window -- what am i doing wrong please -- i have tried everything i can think of now and really need help- i have max bars showing for my connection LW-ON LINE --
myoption settings is MAX 5 SEARCHES -- but screen stays blank
i have attempted searching with FIREWALL ON AND ALSO SWITCHED OFF makes no difference

Is your LW connected to the network properly (how many green connection bars do you see)?

If it is, try the advice in the thread below

my system is ---- windows xp --- my connection is broadband with BT
also under library on the seasrch page file if i click on 'saved files' i get an entry in main window which refers to my desktop with a ref to TYPE - ini - and a path to my hard drive --- Cdrive etc

Did you read the thread? It has instructions for how to delete the preferences folder:rolleyes:
One piece of advice in that thread was to try downloading a magnetmix file. That's why I asked whether you'd downloaded one of those files.
I was assuming you'd read the thread.

i have read all threads and actioned as far as i understand

thanks for your latest thread birdie--- i cannot find where to delete 'preferences ' -- can you guide me please

i have now downloaded one item from 'magnetmixfile' it shows in library and on clicking plays in windows media-- it is now showing on my library list

i tried searchng again and get a message appear ---
'LIMEWIRE IS CURRENTLY CONNECTING TO NETWORK-YOUR SEARCHES MAY NOT RETURN MANY RESULTS UNTIL YOU ARE FULLY CONNECTED'

why is LW saying still connecting ?--- whats preventing it completing?

This quote is post #6 of that Blank Results Page thread, with a link to instructions for deleting the preferences folder. Click on the blue link in the quote box. There's also a sample image included in the instructions, to make things easier to follow. Only use the instructions in point 3...point 2's instructions are for people who've used much older versions of LW. Remember that LW has to be properly closed before deleting the folder. Also remember that it's a hidden folder, so you'll have to show hidden files & folders in order to be able to delete it. All this is covered in the instructions, you'll see when you click on the link.

Your inability to connect at all now could be down to a few things... ISP, software firewall, firewall within router. But we won't be able to help you too much unless we know a few more details. Go back to post # 4 of this thread. You'll see a blue link titled "System details - help us to help you". Click on it. Then you'll see a list of 15 questions. Could you please answer those?
