how to use bit torrents

Hi

Could anyone tell me how to use bit torrents in limewire i am using version 4.12.3

i have read that you can copy the shortcut to the file, but then where do you paste it?

Also if you download the torrent then click on it, limewire flashes but does nothing else?

Forgive me i am new to this
