cant connect

hi everyone i recently downloaded 4.16 and since then i have not been able to open limewire when i click on the desktop icon it takes me to miscellaneous settings which i change or not to suit but it does not let me go any further i am running windows xp home i had no problem untill i downloaded the newer edition any help greatly appreciated i am not a computer expert by any means thanks chris
