# column

what is the number column? it shows 49, 50, 53.. What do these numbers mean? last time i used file sharing it was kazaa and that number would mean the number of place i could get that file.

also I haven't seen one lime since i started searching. is there any limewire stamped files? does this software still work?

The # column shows the number of hosts sharing an identical version of that file.

The orange warning banner with the limewire symbol was added because there were bogus LW updates showing up in search results. These files were infected & to try to prevent people from downloading dangerous files, the warning banner was added to LW's interface.

The LW symbol doesn't apply to music, movies etc...just to LW updates.

thanks

I get it. It seems theres a fair amount of junk too.

Is there a way to see the list of each user for selecting a download or chat?

Is it s problem if LimeWire detects a corruption in a file?

Which Media players actually play the files?

I've downloaded 2 files and they both wont play in the limewire player or wmp or nero. It says the file name (.mp3) does
not maych the file format... So I'm clueless. file formats...?

Which player has the note in a white square symbol next to the file?

If you right click on a host > browse host, you may be able to see what other files they're sharing.

Right click on the column header > tick 'chat'. If the host has chat enabled (you see a smiley icon), you can try to chat with them by right clicking > chat with host. Both browse host & chat don't always work.

If LW detects a corruption in a file, you might see an error message, or the download might regress.

The files are played by whichever media player you select as your default player: Setting Default video app (goes for music as well)

Are you using a good, updated AV to scan files that you've downloaded - before you open them? The files where the extension doesn't match the file type may be nasty: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/322153-post4.html

You should read the LimeWire User Guide and Frequently Asked Questions.

Also, read through the red sticky threads at the top of each forum section...they have heaps of info.
