Limewire has detected a Firewall

I have been using Limewire for a while now, but I recently turned off my home internet, as I'm hardly ever there, plus my city has a plethora of wifi hotspots. The particular place I would like help with is a Library using BlueSocket. I think it may be them with the firewall, and when I asked the nicest clerk I could find, they said it would allow file sharing networks but they couldn't give me any port numbers.

Windows Vista
2ghz duo amd
3gb ram
86gb HD available
Limewire 4.18.3

I set Norton to allow Limewire and also turned it all off just to see if it worked. It didn't. Also checked to make sure the Windows firewall was allowing it through. I turned that one off just to see if it would work. Still nothing.

-------------
Edit:
Also, the test page for Limewire ends with:
"The server at www3.limewire.com is taking too long to respond."

I also turned my firewalls back on and adjusted some settings to allow Windows File Sharing and Shared Networks

Obviously you didn't read my post. It's all there except for the modem/router information which I obviously don't know. The library won't give me any information. I am of course in the USA, and yes there is a brick wall there, which means firewall. Leave this one to someone who can read, cheekies :shoot:

UHMMMM I wasnt finished with my post.. sorry .. I was posting that I was having the exact same problems and was giving my details.. but I was unable to finish stating that in my post because of a child calling for me. ALOT of people post in someone else's thread with the same problem so as to NOT double post the exact same problem. BUT i deleted my post and u can enjoy your thread by ur self.. some people are just IGNORANT JERKS!!!

CharlieBoobah July 22nd, 2008 03:41 PM

I wasn't being rude. The only part you posted was the rules. How was I to know that it was inadvertently posted by you. I offer my hand in apology.

cheekies July 22nd, 2008 07:12 PM

I posted the specs of my computer like it asks.. not the rules.. anyways.. it seems that u nor I are getting anywhere with this problem.. if i get it fixed I will let u know.. * shakes hand*

Help

I can't connect to my limewire (firewall detected) even after I deleted my Mcafee, Nortons etc and disabled my windows firewall. Help me please. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.:(

svenkramer August 13th, 2008 07:17 PM

Me too. I upgraded after being prompted that a new version of Limewire was ready to be installed, but after installation and adding exceptions for Limewire and the two ports, it still refuses to connect. Even if I switch off Windows Firewall there is no difference which makes me suspect about the sequence of steps. I truly regret that I upgraded, wasted an entire evening and close to badmouthing Limewire, so please HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there a certain sequence of setting exceptions, quitting any of the applications and do I need to restart (and when)?

Ever so grateful for your advice!!!
Sven

Me three! I have use Limewire for years without a problem until this week. As an attempt to remedy, I upgraded and added exceptions for Limewire and the two ports, it still refuses to connect. Even if I switch off Windows Firewall there is no difference. I too truly regret that I upgraded. It appears that there must be something wrong at Limewire. We need some HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Solution

I have read that to correct this problem one must uninstall limewire as well as the application data found in the users folder. I did this and still could not get a connection. So I tried something else...

Uninstall Limewire
I then did a search through all of my files for limewire (in the search box type in "limewire")
I deleted every file that had to do with limewire including GIF's and the rest of the junk that comes with the program.
After your computer is entirely Limewire free restart your computer.
Once restarted go to the Limewire offiial site and download limewire again.
Run the setup and WALLAH! I now have 5 green bars instead of the red.

Before doing this I tried everything else out and still had the connection problem. This is the only solution that worked for me and I hope it works for you as well. Good Luck!!

Connection problems

I tried deleting everything and restarting the computer. Then I downloaded limewire and still have the same problem. It claims to be detecting a firewall. I just think they trying to make us pay and get the upgrade.

Anybody else find a solution to this problem? :(

blindmanstears August 16th, 2008 07:13 PM

I am sorry that did not work for you. I was having the same problem even when I totally shut off Norton and Windows defenses. I even uninstalled Li,ewire and reinstalled it three times as well as trying all of the other tricks that are posted and finally I decided to delete everything associated with limewire and updated my Java. I guess the last time was the charm for me. From what I have read it is affecting even those who have upgraded.

I thought this might help you as it did me, should I come across any other possible tricks I shall post them here to hopefully help you and others facing this pain in the neck of a problem.

Not true, I have had Pro for over a year now. I have not used it for a few months and when I stopped it was working fine.

Well tonight it would not connect due to the firewall issue. So I paid the 14 bucks to get another upgrade since it has been 6 months now.

Still it does not work. I will try to do the un-install/delete everything to see if that works. If not, I will just move on to another p2p program as there are a ton of them out there.

I've just started a new Limewire (4.18.5). The last one worked fine. This one doesn't and shows a Firewall. I've turned off my Windows firewall. Still have AVG antivirus on.
My details are;
Operating sys is Windows XP with 25GB Ram free.
Connection is Broadband through a Belkin54g wireless router.
I connect from my own house with Talktalk as my ISP.
My Limewire edition is 4.18.5 and Java is 1.6.0_01-b06.
I am UPnP enabled but the Brickwall is showing a firewall.
I live in Ireland.
The test site showed "the test worked".
How please do I get my Limewire to work?

FireEater August 19th, 2008 12:54 PM

I uninstalled Limewire and went with Frostwire.

I still get the firewall detected but now have a turbocharged connection and am back to downloading.

Firewall problems and Limewire

Many thanks FireEater. I have tried getting rid of Limewire but a message keeps popping up saying "unable to delete because another program or person is using "promodb.lck" ". I found that this promodb.lck is a small part of LM but no matter what I do I can't clear the little b**, and I can't find any other program that uses it.
However I'll try again and try using Frostwire.
I'll let you know developments and again many thanks.

easy fix from other post

Hi everyone,

My limewire started doing this a long time ago. A post in another thread suggested deleting a file and it did it for me.

Go to c/all users/(your name)/limewire and find the file called "gnutella.net" and delete it.

It was that easy for me!:super:

Hi Everyone,

My limewire started doing this a couple of months ago. I just read something on another thread that said to delete a file and it worked.

Go to c/all users/(your name)/limewire and find the file called "gnutella.net" and delete it.

That was all I had to do! Hope this helps.

how to get limewire firewall off

if your limewire is still saying that u have a firewall and your bars are red

you will need to do search,
in the search files in your task bar, the type in 'gnutella.net'..any files that appear need to be deleted, that is your firewall...

if this doesnt work i dnt know what else will...

let me know how it goes...

Same Issue

Thanks to the above user, I followed your post, I disabled the firewalls before doing so and now I have full connection strength, thanks a bunch!:laugh_2:

You should still enable your firewall (only one, 2 firewalls enabled usually cause problems), User Cant Connect - LimeWire; just make sure your firewall is configured to allow LW full access. :)

Hi mama mia, can you supply as many of these details as you can System details - help us to help you (click on blue link) :)

For OSX's software firewall, see OSX Firewall settings for Tiger/Leopard

I have ascertained you use AT & T ISP. :)
