Is Limewire Illegal?

I live in LA and my internet service is cox cable. I downloaded the program a couple months ago to test it out and see how it worked. Cox cable sent me a email and a letter saying they knew I had it on my computer and if i didn't delete it I would be sued thousands of dollars and whoever owned this computer (which is my dad) would be sent to jail. I was thinking about buying pro but I don't want the same thing happening its not worth it. I don't have 99 cents for each song for i tunes, plus lime wire is fast and easy. Any advice?

LW itself isn't illegal but downloading/uploading copyrighted files may be illegal, depending on your country's laws.

Buying Pro doesn't change anything. Use the forum search (up the top, beside 'new posts') to look for legal or legality... you'll find heaps of threads with more info.
