Various things you can do.

Learn to recognise spam: Virus thread: Typical virus spam file sizes - Make a note of them (click on blue link to see)

Use similar techniques to these: How to find music

If all you are getting is spam in your search results, you might even be connected directly to an ultrapeer who is a spammer. To save me retyping the advice, see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/345936-post2.html

To me, it seems that people think LimeWire is a program that everyone can use. It really isn't. I reckon about 50% of people learnt how to use LW the hard way ~ by actually obtaining a virus, and then realising the files not to download.

My advice is to check out the links provided by Lord of the Rings, they are very useful and can prevent you in the long run.

I realize this. Thank you, but this has nothing to do with what I am talking about. I have a serious problem with p2p programs refusing to implement a file size filter. I am quite adept at identifying spam. I have not gotten one single virus yet. No matter what, having a massive amount of fake results, which will show up regardless of how good you are at identifying the fake results, still drowns out the legitimate results. They will not show up half of the time period! I have someone in the same house as myself, just upstairs who does not even show up all the time. I have to do much searching to find them. It is not me or my hardware. I know this. My computer is fine and works quite well. It is the spammers taking over bandwidth, period!

Try the LW Beta 5.2, it does have a size filter & other filters .. some of the old ones from LW 4. If you are a pro user you can obtain the Pro beta from a link on right side of your pro page. If you are using LW Basic, get the LW beta here LimeWire 5.2.5 (Beta) - Lime Wire

A size filter was the very first thing I requested when I came onto this forum. Finally after 5 years they have implemented one. But my main purpose for the size filter was not to fight spam however it can help to remove spam from search results.

BTW Phex has had a size filter for many years.

So you tried the losing of ultrapeers technique. Great, so should work well for you.
