Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

There's only a minor chance your LW main settings would be changed. Perhaps things like program interface size, columns to show etc might be lost. At worst, your shares information might be lost.

In case you wished to know, the important files to backup from the LW preferences folder are: (note: you may not see the .dat extension if your system is set not to show file extensions:)
library5.dat = lists all your "shared" files. (I occasionally back this up, because I have 3 sets of shares for different purposes. eg: mostly music, or mostly videos, etc. Also in case something happens, I can always use the backup.)
library.dat = lists sensitive folders & files not to share. This file is not so important. (LW 4 used this file-name for the equivalent of library5.dat's purpose.)
downloads.dat = keeps record of the file download history & % downloaded of each file downloading. This is a very important file.

These files should never be returned to the LW preferences folder to replace others when LW is open, else they will simply be written over with whatever settings LW is presently using.

spam.dat = keeps record of types of files marked as spam.
tables.props = lists custom set tables & their widths.
limewire.props = General settings. Includes interface size, filtered extensions & keyword filter, banned ip addresses, up/download settings, etc.
gnutella.net = connection file.
fileurns.cache, not sure the purpose, but related to files "shared". This one could be worth backing up if backing up library5.dat
ttdata.cache, not sure the purpose of this file.

I occasionally get this error also in the Upload window. In LW 4 I think it usually meant the file was no longer being shared. For LW 5, I'm not sure what it means. I'd be purely guessing the cause.

I've discovered a little more about the "Invalid Request" message. Whilst I suggested this was previously known to happen when the upload file has been removed from the shared folder since after beginning the LW session, this is also true, I tested it. The files that seem to get that message in general seem to be incomplete files. With so many shares I didn't notice until now. LW 5.5 & I'm guessing the earlier LW 5 versions also, had no user control over whether incomplete files were shared using the partial-file-sharing technique. Partial-file-sharing is done by default in LW 5. In LW 4, the user had a choice whether to allow partial-file-sharing or not. Partial-file-sharing is where you share parts of the file as you are downloading the file. Much of the file transfers on the gnutella network is done via this technique. Torrents also use this same partial file sharing technique.

I'm "guessing" it may be related to upload settings, I'm not sure if partial-file-sharing in LW 5.5 takes into account upload slots & bandwidth set by the user, but either or both of these things may be affecting it. Once I set my upload slots lower, I received this message. When I set my upload bandwidth down very low, the message seemed to come very frequently. And this was via mostly different users for the same incomplete file I was still downloading. I don't usually cut my bandwidth down by much, but I do sometimes cut my upload slots if several large files such as videos are being uploaded. Means they get faster & regular speeds. Otherwise for some reason, if I have many small files being uploaded at same time as several very large ones with many upload requests, my upload bandwidth jumps all about even down to zero at times. Odd. But on this occasion it was purely an experiment where I cut the bandwidth down very low.

My only other thought is, the users programs are requesting parts of the incomplete file I do not yet have. And LW is mistakenly notifying via the incomplete window about this error. In the last example, I had 25-35% of the (video) file completed.

LimeWire Pirate Edition-5487.gif

lol just after posting this I noticed a regular shared music concert video file I have with same message in upload window. Then a small file with same message a few minutes later despite pushing my bandwidth back up. My above hypothesis was was perhaps partially correct lol, it might be related to error messages within the program, not enough slots or not enough bandwidth, but the messages being mistakenly reported to the upload window perhaps. The image below was after a couple greedy people tried to select many files to download at once. A & B were about 5 mins apart.

LimeWire Pirate Edition-5489.gif

And then another different incomplete file with same message a couple mins apart, whilst a couple people were peaking my upload bandwidth with music & video uploads. Perhaps this post does not say anything. lol Anybody with any ideas?

Edit 3 July 2011:
(Edit August) I had thought problem might be caused by using LW 4's old preferences with no to partial file sharing. But after removing this line from the preferences, still seem to get the error. I suspect the problem is a bug. The Invalid Request seems to occur for both incomplete & shared files. Especially but not only if the person is trying to upload too many files. Seems to happen mostly if they are waiting in queue for a slot.

This is one reason LPE always seems to run best upon a clean install with no previous LW preferences. That includes removing LW Basic or LW Pro preferences.

I would like to thank File_Girl71

and if you change a setting in tools>options>upload/download Limits (configure) you will get files much faster (if your ISP don't throttle you down)
see attached

AFAIK there isn't a user guide for LPE.

If you have any questions about using LW then feel free to post them here & people will help you where they can

I'll do that. But if somebody here by chance downloaded the guide that was available for LW Pro, perhaps he could make it available here or as a torrent. That would be really nice. Thanks.

LW did not have a downloadable guide for LW 5. The previous downloadable guide they had was for early LW 4.
The reason they refused to make it downloadable was they said to me, the program goes through so many changes so frequently, meaning one downloadable version might be out of date within months. And LW 5 did go through considerable changes over it's time. And had considerable differences to LW 4 on top of that.

I do definitely need to add & upgrade some 'How to do's' with LW 5. I've been thinking recently about posting advice on general downloading with LW 5. Tips & tools that some people don't realise, also advice about how best to go about things.

Some things in LW 5 were never completed by the developers, and at least for MacOSX there are some remaining bugs. Not sure if these apply to Windows but my guess is at least a couple of them do. Of course these bugs passed across to LPE. I've used both LW 5.5 Pro & LPE in depth.

OK that evolution reloaded link is now dead.

Some links did die, that's why the first post on the first page of this thread was updated more than once.
There's also File_Girl's version in the following post. The AVG no longer works in any version of LW, so no point in even having it. File_Girl removed it before the AV stopped working.
