Question Freezing, Freezing, Freezing

In the Feedback thread there are a couple of comments about freezing in WinME--but no helpful responses. Hoping to hear ideas & solutions by starting a new thread. My Gnotella is freezing in 98 and behaving strangely, in general!

I just discovered Gnotella this week--it was working fine once I got the hang of it (yes, to the complainers, many files could not be accessed, but many could be--so I thought it was great).

Yesterday--not having read the info on the unremovable message about newer version--I uninstalled and reinstalled. That's when the program became more unstable. It no longer wishes to be relegated to the background (reduced to the W task bar)--won't even respond and bring up right click "restore" option.
And it no longer "wishes" to have anything else running! (like right now--when I came over to write this message (this morning it also freezes when I play music at the same time!)--I go back and first, it's not even listed as an open program & then when I get back to it by reducing everything else, it's frozen stuck again--for the 10th time this morning.

I also started having connection problems yesterday--for the first time--but read here about using the gnutella.hostscache.com:6346 address -- that worked great last night but not today. (But thank you to the person--oh I see that was Cyclocide, Adminstrator-- who provided that info--it was sooo.......helpful....somehow about 75% of my selections downloaded quickly and flawlessly, as opposed to about 5% previously. However, my experience so far has been that if I can't connect with gnutellahosts.com:6346, I also can't connect with the other suggestion of router.limewire.com:6346 )

Any solutions appreciated--but I won't comprehend too much jargon--just "lay person" language!!!
Thanks--I'm hoping to get back to the fun soon!

I'm getting the same kind of freezing problem in Win98. Every now and again the program will not respond to anything, and when minimized, will not respond to being restored.

I've always thought my problems lie in my operating system. I hate Windows.

Default Hmmm, Hmmm, Hmmm

Well, I don't think its the OS that's freezing Gnotella, its Gnotella itself. The freezing thing is common, happens to me too. But the thing is, Gnutella works on transmitting messages (searches and such) and what I've noticed is that Gnotella freezes because of the amount of messages your comp has to process.. Watch, if Gnotella is freezing, go to the Hosts page and right click in the window and say Disconnect from Network and BAM no more freezing. Whats interesting is that other Gnutella i've used (LimeWire and Bearshare<--before it became spyware) doesn't have that freezing problem so it seems that it probably is a Gnotella-specific problem, which will probably be fixed in the next version.

Oh and if you hate Windows... stop using it. You can always go the Linux route. Cheaper too.

I found that sharing more than 200 files or so, makes Gnotelle very unstable, doesn't respond, freezes up und uses up huge CPU activity (not Gnotella.exe itself but that stupid add-on since V96 aFileDB.exe).

You can actually 'kill' aFileDB.exe after Gnotella has connected to some hosts and it still seems to work happily away, much much faster und hardly any CPU usage.
But don't use Setup and apparently it won't share files, but I am not sure. Try it anyway.

It is a good client, but a bit hungry on process power and cannot handle sharing too many files, e.g. over 200 I think.

I use Wi*** and 56K.

Angry Ditto Ditto Ditto

I agree with all of the above!!!
I am new to this thing.... I also uninstalled and re-installed due to the annoying "newer version" thingy ma bobby and I'm forever having to Ctrl-Alt-Dlt to close Gnotella and then start all over again!!!!

As for the.... "gnutellahosts.com:6346, I also can't connect with the other suggestion of router.limewire.com:6346)" ....HUH????
