using gnotella in lan with proxy server?

my computer is part of a lan network and i'm using the internet connection of one of the computers serving as a (jana) proxy server. the problem is that since i do it this way gnutella (or the clones like gnotella) won't establish a connection and therefore won't function anymore. (no problems by using my own isdn card!) any suggestions?
