in the search i get files returned that are red and black, what do each of the colours mean?

Red means that the user/file is behind a firewall. It will be tougher to download from them, if they truly allow downloads. Black is either a normal server or unknown. I've had, on occasion, requested a "black" file and ended up sending a push request. *sigh*
