I got the source from John Marshall a few years ago for File_Girl's cause. I think I had it hosted at Filecloud but forgot to re-upload it after a technical issue there.

Perhaps File_Girl would have the ability. Though she hasn't been around for past 5 months.

There's apparently some issues with compiling it depending on which version of the compiler is used.

BTW did you grab the GnucSource file? The one titled Gnucleus-2.2.0.0 is simply the installer for the already compiled version.

What am I to do with the already compiled version? I'm only interested in improving it, not in using it

The GnucSource.zip is the source code. But when I checked the mediafire host site, only the 2.2.0.0 installer had a statistic for being downloaded. A direct link to the GnucSource.zip.
(I re-zipped it on Windows. Looks like I originally zipped it on MacOSX which can result in a confusing OSX extra folder.)
