Can someone please explain to me what the "hit snooping" option is or direct me to a link where it is explained.

As a ultrapeer Phex constantly monitors the traffic that goes through the network and collects search results that match your downloads and adds new download candidates.
It works the same way as the passive search. The advantage is that its not generating extra traffic on the network. But compared to the download mash which also contains alternative candidates its not very effective, just a nice addition.

As a leaf this feature wont help.
