You can.

You can even stream

You can enhance that by right-clicking the downloading file and selecting the download strategy "priorice beginning of the file" (or so). Then the file will (mostly) be downloaded from beginning to end.

I once tried streaming a video that way, and it worked quite well

There is a known bug in 3.2... preview might not be enabled if the file has no THEX data.
This is fixed in SVN.
