The old BearShare probably tangled things up a bit in the networking components of Windows. It was too aggressive in opening and closing connections which tended to leave behind a lot of orphaned packet fragments in the networking buffers. Eventually Windows runs out of places to put those fragments and the next program to come along that wants to open a lot of connections finds Windows unable to keep up. What's a pando? Any relation to the Panda antivirus? |
Pando is a file-sharing program via the e-mail. I thought that that resolved my problem, but I’m not sure anymore. Suddenly it just worked  |
Help Please !! 1 Attachment(s) Okay .... let me start .. i had a windows XP SP1 which had bear share running on it perfectly. I got some virus in my system, due to which i could not open any website or connect to yahoo, google or msn messenger BUT i was able to download off bearshare ! So I thought i'd format the C: drive and install the OS again and thus got the windows XP SP2 installed on my system. Now the problem is that I CAN NOT connect to bearshare. ( Hosts not connected ) I am using the bearshare pro 5.0.2.3 I am also uploading the reports. I hope you can help me ... Also, i am using BSNL broadband service through a router and a LAN card. Thanks a zillion .... Narry |
Follow the recommendations in the first part of the report, and especially move that temp folder from e:\ to something separate from "E:\New Folder (4)". Something like "E:\BearShareTemp", for example. Nesting one inside the other like you have will create a tremendous strain as BearShare scans those changing temp files over and over. You really should move out those completed downloads. Save them somewhere BearShare doesnt see and have to keep track of them. Also, you will probably find the recommended b25 version more compatible with SP2. ;] |
thanks ! Yes, the B25 is awesome ..... but i still cant seem to find out why the pro version just stopped working .... Anyhow, the speed on b25 is very good... thanks again. |
Today is the 3rd of June 2009, and my bearshare was not working ! Just read this thread, tried the suggestions ... IT's WORKING ! awesome. 2 and a half years later the thing still works ! Thanks all ! |

I'd suggest that you download and install Limewire as an alternative. |
What you are talking about happened four years ago, and BearShare has never stopped working. |

I too have had connection problems. I'm using version 5.1.0b25 with BearStart. In past, it has always connected fairly quickly. However, before I did my searches and found this post, I was getting a "cannot connect to Gnutella servers" message. Part of my search turned up the "old news" on which you corrected me. I obviously didn't look at the date on the articles that I was reading. Then I removed BearShare and installed another client which I don't really like. Based on your feedback (thank-you, by the way), I reinstalled BearShare and I'm initially still getting the "cannot connect to Gnutella servers" message but if I close the window and wait long enough, it does connect and work. Has something changed to cause this problem? BTW, I read on another post that "private1.bearshare.net" is down and the hosts are not updating. I've also read other AaronWalkhouse posts and downloaded and installed new hosts files and am still having the same issue. |
