its a simple test...one that shows whether or not you can get connected to the network...since it worked, we know you at least have the capability..

so far I haven't seen nearly enough information to make any real response....

Have you tried forcing your BS into ultrapeer mode? Check your options. This may or may not help. My BS was working fine an hour ago with downloads be they from many or a single host.

If you used BS happily for years, is there anything that's changed recently that might have affected it? Windows SP updates or other types of updates, etc. Or perhaps added some security software.

I am trying to give you more info. Will any of this help? My forth light says TCP firewalled UDP firewalled. I am trying to connect from work, I am using windows xp pro sp3, I have 782.8 available ram, disk space available 28.82, the router is Netopia 2247NWG, there is also another box that says Sonicwall TZ190. I am trying to use BS 5.1.0b25 & bearstart. I have windows firewall off but I allowed TCP & UDP for port 6348, I am in forced ultrapeer mode. I do not think there have been any updates to the system & up until last week I was using a different BS version I think it was 5.2.5.9 but when that stopped working I downloaded the BS 5.1.0b25. I tried port forwarding for Netopia 2247 because Netopia 2247NWG did not show up on the list but I could not gain access when I got to the point of enter network password. Thats all I got for now, I just want BS to work is there anything you can tell me from this info or do I need more. Thanks

Try these instructions: Port Forwarding BearShare on the Netopia 2247NWG-VGx

However, before you actually create a port forward rule, you need to set up a Static ip address first: Static ip for Windows XP

For your router, by default the username is admin and the password is 1234

Another password you could try: admin1 or admin

yeah....take the following with a grain of salt...

perhaps you should be working, not filesharing...I guess it didn't occur to you that people in your company want you to work and have therefor implemented measures to prevent you from doing activities that they deem inappropriate on THEIR premises using THEIR internet connection..

I miswrote in my post it was the Netopia 2247NWG-VGx I tried. This is what happened I tried set up static ip followed all the steps the last thing said if you do not have a dot in obtain an ip address automatically your connection is already set up for static ip. No dot on mine. I then went back to port forwarding put in 6348 for BS incoming port, next said enter static ip address_ I did not make one because I had a dot so I put in my ip address but changed the last portion. The next thing tells me to enter router ip address in a browser I entered the ip address no window opened it just said failed to connect page load error. I used internet explorer & firefox both did not work. So how do I forward a port if I cant get past this point.

When the netopia ddidn't work for me I saw sonicwall on the router list, so I tried sonicwall TZ 170 (Not 190 I know) but when it gets to ip address I get the same thing failed to connect page load error. I cant procede to forward a port does this mean I cant have BS anymore?

Ok I got the grain of salt thing....but just so you know I work in a small private company & they know I use BS I have even gotten music for my boss. We use an outside place for our system & if I am blocked it is not because my company said to do it. So I guess my question is.....Is that the problem & if it is what do I have to tell these outside people to do so I can get back on BS? And as far as I know in the past couple of weeks they did not do anything to cause me blocked intentionally.

As I said I tried that one also but when it gets to the part to put the routers ip in the address bar I get page load error unable to connect.
