Limewire Skins

1 Attachment(s)
I need some help with installing or rather viewing the new skins in my menu selector. I downloaded 2 skins from the limewire official site and saved in the proper folder but when I go to the VIEW/APPLY SKINS.. it does not show up in the menu. What am I missing here? Please help!

catht999 October 8th, 2005 03:47 PM

Hi, If you are running Windows XP your skins need to go in the following folder:

C://Documents and Settings/Your Username/.limewire/themes/

You need to move the skins from your Shared Folder to the folder above.

cassrh43 October 8th, 2005 05:36 PM

I did exactly that and I still cant view in my menu. I think it is because the .ltwp files are missing after unzipping the folder to the proper place. I downloaded from limewire and can now use one of the new skins. I just cant use the ones I downloaded via my browser.

CyberStalker October 9th, 2005 08:42 AM

I tried downloading them from by browser and had problems with it. I find it's always best to download them from LimeWire because the folder goes straight to where it's suppose to go. Just out of curiousity, which skin did you download? The only ones that I liked were the Halloween and Christmas skins. I prefer to make my own.:)

cassrh43 October 10th, 2005 06:19 PM

I downloaded the party skin..the pink skin and patriotic one through my browser. The only one I could get through limewire was the patriotic one. The rest kept telling me need more sources. That's cool that you make your own. Do you share them through limewire too?? :)

When 'need more sources' comes up click on find sources and within a few seconds it should start downloading. At least, that's what it did for me. As for sharing my skins, I tried to upload them but the files were too big because I have more .png files in my skins. In order to put them into LimeWire so others can download them the graphics can only be .gifs and .jpgs.:D

Btw, is that you in the attached image in the first post?

After you unzip go to skin folder there should be a text file called theme.txt you need to left click select rename file and change the file name to theme.ltwp

I just did that and I still can't view in my menu. (Sighz) I think I'll just give up on downloading from my browser. Thank you for taking the time to help.

I'll tell you how to do it, step by step so you'll know for the next time you want to download another.

1. Once you have your .zipped skin, click on the Themes folder in the .limwire folder and create a new folder. If the skin you downloaded is called Christmas(this is just an example), then name the folder Christmas_theme.

2. Unzip the skin and make a copy of all of the .gifs, .txt, etc. and paste them in the Christmas_theme folder.

3. Click on the unzipped file and rename it Christmas_theme.lwtp.

4. Cut the Christmas_theme.lwtp file and paste it in the Themes folder.

Now when you go into LimeWire click on View>Apply Skins>Refresh Skins then go into apply skins again and you should see your new skin.

Let me know if you need anymore help.;)

MK_ULTRA October 15th, 2005 09:20 PM

Cyberstalker which program/s do you use to make your own skins?

CyberStalker October 16th, 2005 07:25 AM

There's really no program/s needed to make the skins. You will need something like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop for the graphics if you choose to change them.

If you want to make a skin, go into this link and download a zipped file called generic_theme.lwtp. If you never made skins before this may confuse you at first until you play around with it for a bit.:)

I was having the same problem too. I tried your steps but when I do step #3 the file remains a text file. There must me something I am doing incorrectly. I right-clicked it and selected rename and named it Party_theme.lwtp Is that correct?

I think I came across that before. I believe it happened with the Metal skin. I had accidentally deleted the file. Go into .limewire folder and see if the folder and .lwtp file are still there.:)

A skin is the appearance of your LimeWire. The next time you go into LimeWire, click on View>Apply Skins and select one from the list. You'll see that the appearance of your LimeWire has changed.:D

Cool, thanks for the reply, Ill give it ago. ;)

If the skin is called Holiday_theme then create a folder called Holiday_theme. After you unzip the file rename it Holiday_theme.lwtp. You have to type in the .lwtp at the end of the filename. Then copy all of the gifs and .txt file and paste them in the Holiday_theme folder. Then after that cut the Holiday_theme.lwtp file and paste it in the themes folder(.limewire>themes).:)

The file that you unzipped is the file that you need to rename. All you're really doing is putting the .lwtp at the end of the filename.:)

Kiashrin December 14th, 2005 09:59 AM

okay, thanks... at least i know i was doing something right, just apparently my computer is being blah.... see, i do rename file and tack on the .lwtp at the end and windows is leaving it as being the same type of file but with that tacked on... the extension doesn't change, so like if i have a file folder or zip or whatever (tried both when i was trying to figure out how to get it to work) no matter what it wasn't changing (ie, rename file and type whatever_theme.lwtp and it would remain as whatever file it started out as but just with the .lwtp at the end of the file's name)...... sooooo, i don't know what i'm doing wrong, or maybe it's just something with xp that i'm not getting how to make it change the file type.

I also have Windows XP and after I unzip the file I rename it with the .lwtp at the end. That's what I was told to do when I first started making skins.:)

lemongotsour January 19th, 2006 08:39 AM

erm ye...?

hey
im having uber probs with the skins too. ive searched the forum for all the tips and tricks on how to do it and ive even followed evrything u guys hav sed on here. but im just well confuse. im nt very computer literate anyway so i wndrd if u cud help me with it. bt i warn u ull hav to literally spell it out for me lol cos im terrible :P

lemon

CyberStalker January 19th, 2006 09:20 AM

You've even tried the steps that I had posted in this thread? I really don't know how to make it more simple then that?

lemongotsour January 19th, 2006 09:25 AM

well the bit that keeps stumping me is the unzipping bit
ive extracted the files and ive unzipped them with winzip bt nuthing like that is mentioned? :S

CyberStalker January 19th, 2006 09:59 AM

After the file is unzipped you should see all of the .gifs and the .txt file.

lemongotsour January 19th, 2006 10:39 AM

ye ive gt that far but all the unzipped files just go str8 into the theme folder itself and arent in their own seperate folder.
am i making sense?

CyberStalker January 20th, 2006 09:05 AM

If there isn't a folder already made for the skin then you have to create it. Click on the theme folder then click on File>New>Folder and give it the exact same name as the skin. You should then select all of the files(.gifs and .txt files) and move them into the new folder.

lemongotsour January 20th, 2006 09:20 AM

ok kl then wot?

CyberStalker January 20th, 2006 09:27 AM

After you've done all of that, right click on the unzipped file and click on Rename. Press a cursor key so the name stays and at the end of the filename type in .lwtp. After that, cut the file and paste it in the theme folder in your .limewire folder. Do not paste it in the folder with the .gifs and .txt files!! Your skin should now show up in your LimeWire! To use it, click on View>Apply Skins(in LimeWire) and you should see the skin in the list!

lemongotsour January 20th, 2006 09:39 AM

okey dokies ill giv that a go

thnx man ill report bk if it works or i break it agen

lemongotsour January 24th, 2006 07:40 AM

I got the same thing too. When you see that, click on Find Sources. It will count down for a bit but then the skin will start downloading.:)

lemongotsour January 24th, 2006 09:12 AM

dun that too
"computer says no" *cry with annoyance :(*

CyberStalker January 24th, 2006 09:44 AM

Did you click on the skin before clicking on Find Sources? If so then I don't know why it won't work.

lemongotsour January 24th, 2006 09:46 AM

*sobs profusely* y is evrything soooooooo hard!!!!!!!!!

Triggs January 29th, 2006 11:00 AM

Okay. Well, I've tried everything. I renamed the folder as anyname_theme.lwtp (anyname was just for testing) and it stays as a folder, it doesn't change at all except for its name. I cut and paste it anyway. I paste it into the themes folder, and it's still a folder file, I go on Limewire and click on my theme, it's in the list, but when I click on it it says it doesn't exist (I'm sure there was a picture of that error earlier in the thread).

Why won't it change to a .lwtp file?!

CyberStalker January 29th, 2006 11:31 AM

You don't name the folder with the .lwtp at the end. You only put the .lwtp at the end of the filename for the unzipped file. The folder name should only be anyname_theme.

lemongotsour January 29th, 2006 12:37 PM

huh? can u say that agen pls..slower..and in "pc language for dumbarses"?

cheers

Triggs January 29th, 2006 12:40 PM

What file is this?
The .txt file?

CyberStalker January 29th, 2006 06:44 PM

Are you creating your own skin or did you download one from LimeWire? If you downloaded one from LimeWire(using LimeWire to download it) then you shouldn't have to do anything. When I downloaded a skin from LimeWire it already had the folder for all of the .gifs and .txt file and it was placed in the correct spot.

Pud January 29th, 2006 09:36 PM

I've created my own skin, and I've followed your steps to a "t", but Limewire still won't recognise my skins existence. I've tried refreshing it, restarting Limewire, restarting my computer, swearing at the damn thing, but all to no avail!

If you followed the steps that I made in a previous post then I don't understand why it wouldn't work. The LimeWire site really should give more clearer instructions for the skins.

Triggs January 30th, 2006 12:17 PM

In the answer to your question. Yes. I am creating my own skin. :)
