2.8.5 Crap! 2.8.5 is a bug ridden sham!!!!!!! No connections....constant errors. I don't care if some LW guru got it to work on their machine either (so try to hold off on the always helpful "works here" posts). All I want to know is how to get the older version back??? Thanks. |
so no one is allowed to say they have it working, but you can say you don't have it working? Helpful 'works here' is forbidden, but unhelpful 'doesn't work here' isn't? If you just wanted to know how to get the old version back, you could have just asked, instead of firing off some negative post. Get used to the idea that others will offset your post with a positive 'working here' so some casual reader of the forum won't get the false impression that it doesn't work for anyone. Quote:
That aside, (and I'm sorry this won't help you right now) I always keep a copy of the last version of a program I am happy with until I am sure the newest one works. Saves me from scrambling to find an outdated version when the newest is bug ridden, or does not work for me, as unfortunately is the case with you and 285. Anyway, I leave it to someone else to let you know how to get an older version, since I don't know and don't have one (255 is the next version back I have) :( |
Well said! |
TY :) thanks to a post by KathW, I now know where you can get old versions: http://www9.limewire.com:82/download/ have a blast. |
Thanks Got that older version and it works great. As to why I would not want to hear that it worked for someone else; usually the post goes like this - "Works here!" Thanks, that was so helpful. If you are going to tell me it works for you, great, help me get it working. Otherwise, I couldn't care less if it works for you! Thanks again for the location of the older version, that was very helpful. :D |
I can agree and disagree. If you tell me it works for you that helps me determine if the fault lies with the program or elsewhere, perhaps with my system or a specific combination of processors, operating system, and programs. Often that has been the bit of information that kept me working until I got it fixed and/or helped me shorten the process of degugging by directing me towards the problem. I do find that information helpful. I also hope the program works for you. Perhaps not as much as I hope it works for me but I do want it to work for you. If it only worked for me eventually I would be the only person using it. Norm |
Some of those old versions are dangerous. Use 2.7.13 if you go backwards. Thanks -greg |
Greg, There is no Mac version for 2.7.13 of LimeWire. When I go to the 2.7.13 folder all I see is international/ and lw.tgz. In the folder international is the PC version of LimeWire. I don't know what lw.tgz is. |
The old download areas differ, don't know why. <http://www3.limewire.com/download/2.7.13/> is not very helpful but <http://www9.limewire.com:82/download/2.7.13/> has the individual files for each OS. |
2.8.5 Pro problems. Unfortunately, I have to agree with Ogman 2.8.5 is not the best release of LimeWire. I've tried a few different installations, it just didn't seem able to retrieve files or share files without loosing the connections and restarting. So I moved back to 2.7.13 Pro. Even now with 2.7.13, I see people using 2.8.5 trying to retrieve files and it causes the connections to reset and restart. Maybe a 2.8.5 client retrieving a file from a 2.8.5 server might work, but I was not able to test this configuration. Let's wait for next release for a new trial... |
