These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. 15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community. |

Search errors and oddities I've been using LW for about 2 years, but within the past 6 months or so, I can't search for an artist and title without getting the following error message: "Your search is too specific. Please make your search smaller and start again." Also, if I search for a specific title or artist or album, very often the results are close but no cigar. For example, an artist search for Edith Piaf brought results not only for her but also for male singers with whom she was associated. These files were not for duets with Edith; they were for singles by the men. I recently switched from LW 9.30 to LW Pro 9.33 but the problems are equal opportunity. FYI My computer uses Windows XP Home edition, JRE 1.5_03, Mozilla Firefox, has enough memory available, and uses a dial up modem. I would really appreciate any help resolving these problems. Thanks |

I have always found it useless to search for an artist AND a title. I have been using LW only about 9 months. I only find other songs come up as you describe if the title says eg Edith Piaff Cover. I find that the search function is by no means perfect, even after resigning myself to only filing in one field. For instance a search for a two name artist will bring up many with the same first name but different second names.etc and search for a song title will often bring up artists or albums containing that name. I would welcome a method where you could search an exact phrase with quotation marks as in Google ... perhaps this is a Java thing ... I read recently that it has problems also with Chinese and Japanese characters. So what help can be given I don't know. I think we need to work around the problems as best we can, and hope the Developers can find ways to make the search funcion more accurate. |

the search string gets too long with all the audio tags for some java versions, IIRC. An "any type" search with artist and title and extension, doesn't include all the audio tags, so see if that works better. |

"Any type" search Although Stief's search technique seemed counterintuitive, it worked amazingly well. It makes artist/title and artist/album searches easy. It also enables results that are limited to those types that a music player can handle, my player can't play .ogg or .m4a files. The major limitation on this technique is the length of the allowable search string. For example, "Johnny C*sh American Recording .mp3" wouldn't fit. But with creativity and luck it's still possible to make the search length limit, it becomes a matter of guessing what words can be safely left out. In the end, the "any type" search found results that the "audio" search never did. This didn't mean that any files downloaded successfully, of course - they all needed more sources which never materialized. It is comforting, nonetheless, to have some evidence that these files exist. Many thanks for the help. Last edited by Lord of the Rings; January 15th, 2006 at 11:19 AM. |

there has to be a way to edit the program for this, its SOOOOOOOOO annoying, i hate it. Its so easy to NOT look through a bunch of crap that it spits out at you because you can only type in title. http://www.limewire.org/pipermail/li...st/000324.html might help... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...+try+again.%22 as might that link above. I am not good with programming, but this can't be that difficult of a fix with a hex editor and someone who knows what they are doing. I think a patch for this provided by someone would be very nice. |

Hi shaba not sure if your links point here too (I couldn't get them to work), but looks like there may be hope for the "search too long" problem. I noticed the following patch has been added to the code Quote:
