Angry I Guess I Have To Give Up On LimeWire...

Seriously, a lot of you people are jerks. For real. I've asked for help like 9 times in the last week, and nobody does anything but give me the stupid connection problems link. I don't know anything about Port Forwarding, UPnP or Firewall Configurations. Not all of us are programmers and developers. Nobody offers to help me on these boards.....EVER. Instead, I'm told, "Go here... Go here..." Then, when I click on the link, it's just another thread with NONE of the information I need.

Last try: I configured my the Firewall on my PC to make an exception for LimeWire. My router has UPnP enabled automatically. However, there is still a brick wall in front of the world icon, and I can't download more than around 17kb/s. I never had this problem when I had LimeWire Basic. Can someone help me, or am I going to be given the same link for the 7,408,273,408,273th time?

-Windows XP
-Broadband
-Router: NETGEAR WGR614
-ISP: Charter Communications
-House
-LimeWire Pro 4.12
-"Your Test Worked!"
-Yes, there is a brick wall in front of the world icon on LimeWire...

Calling us jerks well, sorry if you feel that way about the forum. Don't forget as a Pro user you are able to get Pro Support. Just log into their Support page under Pro help. I won't provide links as you obviously don't like them.

Not sure why you have the firewall icon. I do know users of Charter have had a history of problems with that ISP. Just as an experiment, you could turn your XP firewall off momentarily (whilst LW is closed), re-open LW & see if you still have that brickwall icon. If no, then you probably need to go back & recheck your settings for LW in the XP firewall. If yes, then that leaves it up to being either your router or ISP. Netgear do have their UPnP on by default (yes they do still have NAT firewalls.) But perhaps the UPnP is not working reliably for some reason. (UPnP allows the program like LW to communicate directly with the router to open necessary ports whilst the program is open. LW supports UPnP.)

I won't dare suggest anything such as deleting prefs or checking your version of Java. Some people using Pro have had problems with the Java 1.6

I said a lot of people on here are jerks because instead of helping me, they decided to be a smart-a$$. So many people talk like they're above me just because they know how to configure LimeWire, and I can't stand. I do, however, appreciate your help.

I just tried out your suggestion, and no luck. I'm just gonna have to uninstall LimeWire. My downloads are now officially down to like 7kb/s.

I just went back and had a look at your posts and no-one has talked down to you...Give the person that responded to you time to get back on here and give you some advice, seeing you have only just replied to him with your system details...

Download speeds usually depend upon your sources & what they have available or are offering. But your scenario sounds a little suspicious.

Try an experiment, download a magnet link from the following magnet site & tell us what happens re: connecting, download speeds, consistency in speeds, status, etc. + MagnetMix.com +: The Source for Good Content

You could re-check that UPnP is turned on in both LW & your Netgear. For LW under menu bar, Tools->Options->Advanced->Firewalls. Perhaps even change it do something else & then change it back.
For Netgear, see similar instructions on setting it up here to be sure it is turned on: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...gearMR814.mspx
Perhaps even try rebooting your router. Or turning it off for 10-15 mins & turning it back on.

I notice you edited your post after I first posted lol Not important.

it took me forever to figure out how to get rid of the brick wall but this worked for me... turn off limewire, go to start>control panel (must be in classic view) > firewall and then click on turn off.... then restart your computer and then restart limewire.. give it a minute and the brick should disappear... also what java version do you have? go to your add/remove area and see what javas you have...
