Default movies - cds

After downloading movies, it's now time to move them onto a cd...thing that I can't do!

Movies are avi and mpg. I tried to move them to WMP but it seems that they aren't accepted. So how can I transfer movies to a cd?!? Is there another way?

Cheers.

WMP won't convert and burn movie files...You need special software for that...
Here are two tutorials on how this works...

Thanks. I don't have empty cds now so I'll have to wait until I get some.

However the links say that I need to check the dvd player...how about if I want to watch these movies on my laptop? Is it different from dvd players?

And also I realised yesterday that my hard drive is full...will this be a problem in burning cds?

Last question I promise: I don't have a cd burner, can I transfer files anyway?

Thanks.

Do you have a dvd burner ??

You will need dvd's to burn movie files and you will need to check and see if your dvd burner is -R or -RW or +R or +RW and buy the correct discs..

You can watch the files on your Laptop, just make sure you have the right codecs installed...
You can either get the VLC media player and/or a codec pac...
If you have XP this is a great codec pac...Download XP Codec Pack 2.0.7.1 - XP Codec Pack is one of the most complete codec pack
This is the link for the VLC player...VLC media player - Overview

You will need room on your HDD if you intend to download and burn movies...

If you are converting say a 700mb avi file, after converting to dvd I find it usually is about 4gb. So if your hd is full there is no way you can accomplish this. You could go get an external hdd and dn/ld, convert and burn from there. I have a 60gb portable that I use for back-ups. I have a 250gb for this kind of stuff. The 60gb was only about 60.0****. You could always dn/ld, convert, and burn and then delete after burning. Hope this helps.

You can't burn DVDs or CDs without sufficiant space on your hard disk, most if not all burning software need to create an image file on your hard disk. So, for example, to burn a full 700MB CD your software will need anything from 700MB - 1,500MB to create an image file.

Also, I am surprised that you do not understand that you need a CD or DVD burner to burn CDs. You cannot transfer files to a CD (or DVD) you have to burn them.

Therefore, you will have to buy yourself an external DVD burner (they can burn DVDs or CDs whereas a CD burner can only burn CDs) and, with NERO 7, burn yourself some DVD films.

One other thing, a computer can play DVDs with the right software and, of course, computer files but domestic DVD players can only play certain specially formatted files, e.g. VOB (DVD) and mpg (SVCD and/or VCD). There are other files but only the latest DVD players can play them.
