Hi. I downloaded my first file .avi fileand the LW Media PLayer wont open it. Ive now just downlloaed VLC and it still wont open and play the movie. Ive also gone into my C: drive and changed the settings to open all avi/movies files with VLC. Tried to play again- still wont open/play!

If VLC can't play your downloaded file it's probably a fake, I would suggest you download something else and try again.

Also, better virus check your computer for infections because that's what fake files do, infect and screw up your machine.

This is really making me frustrated. Ive downloaded 2 differnt files of the same thing - took 48 hours - and NEITHER of them work! I'm opening up with VLC and nothing on screen. I burnt to disk - nothing there. Im wanting to give up on this download business already. I thank you for your help and direction. I read the links and understood some more - but I still cant make it work.

When you open one of those files up in VLC, go to Window menu & choose 'Media information' (or control i keys), click on Codec Details tab. Click on each stream & see what it says. I'd be curious to know what exact streams are encoded with the video file that makes it unable for VLC to play it.
