Disable FaxSTF, try running with fewer extensions, or get more memory? (But these are more Mac OS Classic suggestions; I don't have OS X)

Hello!

You say that it unexpectedly quits on you. That sounds more like a clasical Mac OS issue and not OSX.I need more info in order for me to help you with this:

What Version of Mac OS are you using?
What version of LW are you using?
Can you describe more in exact detail exactly what happens prior to the crash?
Any error message?
What other apps are you running at the same time as LW?
What Mac computer do you use and how much RAM does it have?

If it it is pre Mac OS X then you have posted this in the wrong forum there is a General Mac Forum.

Thanks for your replies.
I am currently running mac osx.1.5. with limewire 2.4.
When the program unexpectedly quits, I am just downloading a couple of song and then.....gone!
I am going to stop running the fax program, maybe that will help.
Thanks again for your assistance.

Hello!

The disabling of the FAX extensions would probably not help much since you are using LW for Mac OS X and are booted into X and not Classic. The reason that it was a problem with the FAX extensions and JAVA apps in Mac OS 9.X was because the latest JRE 1.1.8 MRJ 2.2.5 was incompatible with these extensions.

One thing that you do need to check though is that you by mistake havent installed the MRJ 2.2.5 Applet Runner in Mac OS X because it does not belong there it should be in Mac OS 9.X but the installer for that app has a tendency to install itself in OS X if you do not use the Switch Disk option in the installer.

The problem might be that you do not have enough physical RAM to run LW.To run LW in OS X it is recommended that you have 256MB or more RAM

Another factor that can cause this is the fact that the 10.1.5 version is the very latest version prior to 10.2 and that LW might be incompatible if that is the case then I would wait for the soon to be coming version 2.5 which is a major realese and that should have a lot of bug fixes.UNtil then you could download and install the classic version of LW and run it in Classic mode.

Thanks Joakim,
I appreciate you taking the time to help me out. I was trying to download the free original LW download but it would never download so I bought 2.4 which did download. I killed the fax, but as you said, didn't make any difference. Maybe I will have to wait for the 2.5.
Thanks again, i really appreciate your time and effort
Scott

Oh, sorry I forgot to mention I have 518 ram, so that really shouldn't be a problem.

bacchanalion/joakim,
In another thread (General Mac OS X support, or something like that) it was suggested that you disable the ultrapeer option to stop the "quitting unexpectedly" problem. It's been working for me this evening after experiencing a crash every two minutes, and has been working for 2 weeks for the person who posted the problem. (preferences>((opens a box call "options"))>speed>check disable ultrapeer.)

Thanks for this info,
I just applied this but it doesn't seem to have any effect. I'm sure this program works wonderfully for many people using it, but I am having no luck. I have managed to get a few things down ( about 4 songs in 4 weeks ) and that is it.
I'm not sure what to do.....

So you checked "disable ultrapeer" and it's still quitting on you? Hmmm. Maybe it's only a coincidence that it's stopped crashing this evening for me after I took that step. We'll see. It's funny though, it worked for another person having the same trouble. Are you sure you applied the change by clicking on the apply button?
Well, the good news is that the LW folks eventually get it right—2.5 should have a fix for this problem. Hang in there.
