Comp crashes when loading limewire

I'm an OS 10.2.3 Mac user. I manage to install Limewire 2.8 with no problems, but when I try to run the program it freezes my computer (sometimes even before displaying the limewire welcome screen). I am only able to use the old version 2.6 for now because I had luckily saved the installer. What am I to do?
