problems after downloading update for 2.9.8

After I download the zip file, the installer extracts but does not go thru the set up process...Anybody know what the deal is?

stief April 1st, 2003 02:26 PM

Hmm--just installed 2.9.8 with no problems. After the installer unstuffed, I just douleclicked on the installer and everything worked.

Any more info?

imackitty April 1st, 2003 05:44 PM

I installed.....but with "errors"

Now, I can open Limewire without any trouble, but when I try and download, my status is always "could not download." Hmmmmmm

stief April 1st, 2003 05:59 PM

just repeat the search to find new sources--the new clients have stopped automatic requeries for the health of the network.

How did you fix the install problem?

imackitty April 1st, 2003 06:08 PM

I didn't. It still downloads with errors. I'm wondering if that is what my problem is...that the "errors" are preventing me from being able to download.

stief April 1st, 2003 06:29 PM

sorry imackitty--I thought you had the install problem. If you had errors, what are they? Unlike the previous versions of 2.9, LW2.9.8 had no error messages. I use textedit to look in the "err.txt" file on the desktop or in the or the "LimeWire_InstallLog.log" inside the ~/Applications/LimeWire folder.

imackitty April 1st, 2003 06:39 PM

these are the lines in the err.txt doc that mention "error." I have no earthly idea what they mean. I'm going to try a good old-fashioned restart and cross my fingers.

Saw those with the previous versions, but they caused no problems with my English version. Try downloading the newest version (2.9.8).

imackitty April 1st, 2003 07:00 PM

well, I restarted and have actually managed to download a song...albeit a guinea pig of a song that I didn't really want (sigh). A couple of songs are *trying* very slowly to download, but most give me that "could not download" status message. I never saw it before tonight. Perhaps I'd just been lucky??

If this is what I can expect from now on, I fear I will be seriously bummed.

stief April 1st, 2003 07:12 PM

Hmm. Did you completly uninstall the previous version before the 2.9.8 install?
I run the uninstall, then use the Find to search for anything "limew" to get rid of the old preferences, installer, and download. To really start fresh, I delete the "incomplete" folder, the old err.txt, the out.txt, but leave the Shared folder as it is.

Doesn't cmd-clicking the search tab for the file you want to get bring up the option to "Repeat search"? That should start the download if the same file can be found. The Could not download message replaces the old requery message.

Well When I double click on the installer icon it appears in the dock for a sec and then disappears. I am on a 400 mhz power mac G4 with Mac OS 10.1.5 and i have 1 gig of RAM.

stief April 2nd, 2003 05:52 AM

Hi frrok. Haven't read of anything similar. There were some changes that involved non-US English systems. Maybe try resetting the system to US English just for the install?

ok will do, thanks for the help steif...

Ugrade

I just installed the upgrade as well and I can open up limew, but when I try to open up my saved playlist file, it asks for a folder instead and I can't open my music. When I add everything to my playlist again, it asks for a folder instead of "select playlist". I went back an re-installed the older version and everything works great. What gives?

sebdude April 10th, 2003 12:05 PM

I had just the same problem with the LW installer appearing in the dock for 1 second. Maybe you could try deleting all versions of LW you have and download it again. (I managed to install 2.9.7 succesfully but not earlier versions)

dan t August 11th, 2003 08:36 AM

i had the exact same problem with osx.

i downloaded the newest limewire osx version off the site, then when i unzipped it, theres an icon called limewire installer there with a pic of a drive and an arrow going down etc. when i double click it nothing happens at all, i just cant get anywhere with it at all.

i tried someone elses method of unzipping the zip file with stuffit 6, and when i do this, a set of folders unzips, when i go into this, there is a folder with mac os, in this is a file saying installer, but when i open it, it just turns out to be a text file with a load of rubbish in it.

i tried unistalling the old version of limewire, but the same things happen all over again.

anyone got any ideas?

stief August 11th, 2003 09:28 AM

Hi dan.
You should have the latest version of stuffit installed anyway, but you could get around installler problems (if you are using OS 10.2), by trying http://baghira.han.de/~jum/LimeWire.html

It's the latest (includes all recent developments--like a beta) build of LimeWire Pro for OSX that Jens-Uwe Mager has generously made available. It doesn't use an installer--just the good old drag-to-harddrive method.

dan t August 15th, 2003 02:32 PM

agh this makes me look like an idiot but who cares. i downloaded that dmg file that you linked, thanks by the way.

when i mount it, there is a heirachy of files and folders, like on the other one i got. however, i cant find anywhere or way to start the application. i go into a folder named mac os, and theres a document called limewire. but thats all it is, a document.

when you click it, a window comes up saying what application do you want to open it with?

so how exactly do i run the program? sorry for being so stupid, i think there must be something ive gotta do but i cant work out what

stief August 15th, 2003 03:17 PM

Dan--what system version are you using? If you contol-click on an OSX (10.2.6) application, that allows you to look into all the files inside the application package, whick sounds like what's happening to you. Actually, sounds like you are using OS 8 or 9 or classic--you can go to the apple menu and select "About this Computer" for the details.

If you're using Mac OS 10.2.6, either your mouse /touchpad is thinking doubleclicks are contol-clicks, or something's wrong with your system.

(anybody--does Dan's problem sound like a "prebinding" problem?)

For OSX troubleshooting, I read http://www.macattorney.com/tutorial.html. MAybe you can get more ideas there.

Sorry I couldn't help more--post back andkeep us posted on the problem.

CoffeeCat665 September 18th, 2003 05:39 AM

I deleted old versions of Limewire, installed new .dmg and now Limewire will not run. Double clicking icon doesn't do squat.

So, enjoyably (sarcasm), I get no return on my investment as I PAID already.

This is a crock.

CoffeeCat665 September 18th, 2003 05:42 AM

Oh, I am on a 333 iMac with 256M and OSX (Jaguar) 10.2.6

Does it matter? Nope. Limewire still won't work.
