Question LimeWire unexpectedly quits every night

I leave LimeWire running overnight on my G3 iMac, 10.2 with a stable broadband connection. Nothing else running. Energy saver turns the screen off after 1 min. In the morning it has always "unexpectedly quit". Any ideas.?

If those crashes are not caused by your processor going to sleep (I set mine to never, and just allow the display to turn off), those crashes are probably logged in a file called LimeWire.crash.log . You can view it in the Console or just drag it onto TextEdit to look at it's contents. Chances are you'll see something like
Quote:
Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000038
which will tell you that it's a problem with Apple's Java Virtual Machine. Jens-Uwe Mager has already informed Apple of the problem and Apple has advised him it is fixed for Panther at least. For us now, the only voodoo I try is to shut my system down for 10 minutes to clear the memory, and on start-up make LW the first app to open
If you can't find a LimeWire.crash.log file, your Console in (Applications->Utilities) has a preference to "Enable Crash Reporting"

Cheers. Sorry if this isn't what you're asking

Indeed. The Crash Reporter is logging errors like this (the latest one)

Quote:

Date/Time: 2003-09-05 05:00:51 +0100
OS Version: 10.2.6 (Build 6L60)
Host: localhost

Command: LimeWire
PID: 1071

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x050d7000
though this means not a lot to me.

Will try the shut down for 10 mins Voodoo.

Many thanks for your help.

David

the LW developers can read the logs: you can send them to bugs@limewire.com
I must admit I stopped sending logs that start with the "Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS"

It's also a good idea to have the bug reporter in the LW preference set to "Always send Immediately"

Search for posts by "jum" to know more--he understands those crashes. I'd be interested to know if the voodoo works easier than hopping backwards on one foot!

cheers
