Latest installer doesn't open...Panther 10.3.1
 

I'm trying to install the latest version of Basic (3.8.6) on my G4 running the most current rev of Panther (10.3.1) and I have the most recent update of Java. Double click on the installer, icon blinks, no launch. Guess this version doesn't work after all. Are older installers available?

I have the same problem.
 

Obviously doesn't work on Panther (10.3.2). My only old version is from 2002. Hope Tech Support fixes this.

Please be more specific: The LW 3.9.1 beta installler (and many others) worked here on an iMac G4 DVD on 10.3.2.

Try a safe boot and then repair permissions --see here . There are reports on Apple's boards about incomplete java installs.

but I don't see how it'll help you. A beta has little in common with the official release, and I installed it on a just-formatted hard drive with a fresh and complete Panther 10.3.2 install and update. The Mac is a 1.25Ghz mirror G4 with 1.24GB RAM. Have you tried 3.8.6?

sorry for the delay in replying, but I had trouble reverting to 3.8.6 (had to find and delete the "Install.LimeWire.pkg" bfore it could install). btw--for the latest build of LW that uses drag-and-drop instead of the regular installer, see here.

So, yes, I've tried 3.8.6 Pro and it works. Maybe the same trick will work for you. Search for file name contains "limew" and criteria->visibility = both in "everywhere" to find all the old LW pieces and to get a clean install.

Your specs look excellent, so I can't see any reason LW shouldn't work for you.

I found all references to installed copies as you suggested, and deleted them. I them used the 3.8.6 Installer and put a new copy onto my drive. It does now launch and run.
