Also, what is "resume the partial files by hand?" I can't get Limewire to run at all in OSX.

Also, there is NOTHING in my Java extensions folder.

This looks suspiciously like our problem - on my system (although it uses Java 1.4.2) there is no xercesImpl.jar to find in the Home/lib/endorsed folder. And from what I understand what happens here, there is some third party application (not Apple) that installs a xerces implementation in a way it overrides any version that comes with any other applications. This appears to be a bug in the installaton of the other application, no application should ever install a library in a way that it affects all other applications on the system.

Will somebody explan what these xerces files are? What do they do?

Well, there's a whole load of xerces files in Digilife, which I just installed on the 13th, which could be when some of my problems started happening. Digilife is a utility that prints directories of iTunes, et al.

O.K., so I tried the jum290 version and althoughI got past the splash screen, it was really buggy and kept coming up with error messages (can't remember what they were).

I pulled out the entire frameworks folder containing the Digilife xerces files and stored them in the trash, where they will probably find their exit.

Restarted jum290 without reboot and seems to work really well.

And guess what! 3.8.7 works now.

thanks for the tip. (also let me know what xerces files do!!! very curious!)

xerces is a common library that parses XML files. LimeWire uses XML to transfer metadata about files (such as the artist, bitrate, etc.. on songs). We're looking into ways that we can continue to let LimeWire work as normal without removing the extra (wrongly placed) xerces component installed by Digilife.. but it may not be possible. Some would refer to this as a mirror of "dll hell" on windows. :)

Interesting--and another good reason to support LW Pro: Pro users attract more open source support again!

Say it aint true Sam--.dll hell for Macs! Aaaargh.
