downloaded .dmg image files corrupted...will not open

I have downloaded many image files, (.dmg) some regular and some .sit, but many will not open (mount) and even if they do, most are corrupted. Is this due to downloading through Limewire, or do I have a settiing messed up???

If you can help please respond. Paul

What version of Mac OS X do you use? If you use Mac OS 10.3 you should try downloading LimeWire with Safari. If you have 10.2 or don't have Safari installed you can download a copy from the following link: <http://www.apple.com/safari/download> If you use LimeWire Basic you can use the download link in my signature. If you use LimeWire Pro you can download it from your personal download page. I hope this solves your problem.

Downloads with Limewire won't mount???

Thanks for the reply. It's not the Limewire .dmg that won't mount...it's the items I have downloaded with Limewire. Some items work fine, but most give an error "no mountable file system".

I have tried downloading many different versions of one title and have yet to get one to work. I have also tried moving these files to other machines thinking maybe it was something with my system. Nothing seems to allow me to open these files :( !

Turning verify checksums & ticking on ignore invalid checksums (ie: don't verify images) can sometimes override this issue. But then again there are corrupt dmgs out there. If you have Toast, sometimes it's worth trying dmg's on it. Also drag & drop the dmg onto disk copy rather than double-click it. Somebody recently solved a similar issue by repairing permissions.
