Never had problems with OS 9. Installed OS X and downloaded Limewire. Problem started. Ever seen this message?

Limewire was unable to open the incomplete file for the selected download because the file name contains characters which are not supported by your operating system.

'Might' be due to Locale Preferencing. Go to LW's Prefs (under the LW name at top left on screen) & select Advanced & Locale Preferencing. Make sure that the option box is ticked. Otherwise you might be receiving 'other' language data.
