Unhappy lost download...very worrying....

I've got a G4 OSX 10.3.9 imac with broadband, and have been using Limewire for information sharing for a while now.

I downloaded a 1kb file this afternoon which has just disappeared! It's not in my shared folder + anywhere else for that matter. I've searched for it using Sherlock, which tells me that it's in my shared folder. Zilch!

I've tried binning it to the trash from Sherlock, which then tells me it's in the trash. Zilch! Empty trash, still there apparently....

Bit worrying. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Oh, and there's nothing in the Limewire library for shared, complete and incomplete.

All I have is the completed download in the download window

Sounds like a system issue most likely. I'd run Disk Utility. Though to use it on the startup disk you will probably need to restart using the startup disk & run disk utility from there. If you have disk warrior or norton or techtool pro then use those also to check your system over. It could be a corrupt icon so it's not showing in the finder properly.

Had Norton, had loads of problems and was told by Apple to get rid of it, that macs have serious issues with Norton. Apparently mac have their own built-in firewall?

Anyway, I've run Macjanitor and disc utility with no results. It just seems to have gone!

Was just worried that it may have positioned itself on my hard drive somewhere, intent on mischief. Hey, we don't live in a perfect world....

There have been lots of criticisms of Norton for mac osx. Version 7 being their 1st entry into osx was a poor effort. V. 8 is greatly improved. But what i don't like about it is it leaves hidden files everywhere. What I do like about it is it's been able to repair problems that none of the previously mentioned utilities could repair. And that includes directory corruption that even disk warrior couldn't repair. I found that surprising. It also repaired my external drive on no. of occasions. But I do use Norton waringly.
