Unable to Run Limewire

I have recently purchased a mac, I am running OS X 10.3.9 and have a fully working internet broadband connection.

I follow instructions to download limewire for OS X and everything appears to install correctly and the icon appars on my desktop.

When I click the icon to launch limewire, nothing happens ?

Please advise what may be wrong because I am itching to download again ?

Cheers

Luke

Well it's obviously not a new mac.

If you recently updated Quicktime to 7.0.4 then see point 3 below. If not then do the other steps.

1. It sounds like the OS update did the damage. Normally after installing Softw or updates, it's best to repair permissions. ie: Restart whilst holding down the SHIFT key until you see the window saying, Safe Booting. Then once started, go to Utilities folder, open Disk Utility & repair permissions. Then reboot normally.

2. I would suggest you re-install Java using the "Offline" java installer. Try this one: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...update142.html
If it refuses to install & gives you a "null" error, go to the harddisk drive, open Receipts folder, & remove/trash the last Java 1.4.2_update2.pkg package & try again to install java. See Receipts folder sample image

3. BTW if you installed QuickTime 7.04, then uninstall it & go back to an earlier version. QT 7.04 has a severe bug versus Java. See QuickTime 7.0.4 bug stops LimeWire from opening!

Unable to run limewire, frostwire, neoOffice

Hello, i've downloaded limewire and installed it. Only to see the bouncing icon and nothing happening. Did follow ALL the suggestions (Reinstalling Java, downgrading quicktime, repaired the permissions, nothing makes a difference. I run mac os x 10.4.4 with unix file system, not apple journaling system. Strangely i've got the same problem when trying to run an office suite called NeoOffice. Bouncing icon, hard disk making its noises and the word neOoffice (Limewire) in the menubar. I think the unix file system is to blame. Meaning the applications incapability to run on UFS. What do you think?

Hope to hear from you,,
Paul

I will post this message on the NeoOffice messageboard asw well, lets hope a joint effort will result in smooth running programs ;-)

That's a tricky one since I've never run in that mode for OSX. And my knowledge of Unix/Zenix is out the window. How about Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption Can these apply for you?

What about deleting the installLimewire.pkg & reinstalling. Also deleting the LW preferences: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire (if that's where you find them I don't know for UFS.)

Try sending philippe99 a pm, I think he may have an idea of repairing Java using the terminal, etc.
