![]() Hi, I’m a first time user. I only nominated my limewire folder to be share and so far I only have 22 songs downloaded. But at the left bottom of limewire said “you are sharing 25 files”. What exactly that means?!! Where the ‘25 files sharing’ from if I only have 22 item in my sharing folder ![]() ![]() Excuse my ignorance but could someone please explain this to me. Many thanks |

![]() Thanks foolofthehill. I did ![]() On my screen file menu bar drop said ‘connect and disconnect’ is that for disconnecting to limewire? What happen when I quit limewire and put my mac to ‘sleep’, is that put the upload/download on hold/stop or it will still keep going on the ‘background’? ![]() Thanks again. |

![]() Putting mac to sleep will cut stop everything. ie: no cpu or ram or hdd or network activity. File menu > connect/disconnect is for connecting or disconnecting from the gnutella network. My OSX LW is set for auto connect when I start the program. But in OS 9, I have that LW set for manual connect so I open LW & let it load shared files & incompletes, then after it's settled I use the connect option from file menu. For your original question about no. # of shared files, if you are allowing partial file sharing then files you are presently downlding will also be shared. This helps the network. So people can download chunks of a file you have already downlded & get the rest from others. But this doesn't normally show as a no. # in the shared files total. However, it's my guess the most probable reason is you are sharing a windows update file. This is stored in your LW prefs folder. There's normally 3 of them. This helps windows people who are installing/updating LW to get it faster. |

![]() With disconnecting you'll stop any transmission from and to the Gnutella Networks. And vice versa, when connecting, you will be connected to the Gnutella Network allowing it to receive and send data. LW is just one of several clients (programs) enabling you to connect to said Network. If you choose to close down LimeWire by simply clicking on the "x" in the top right corner of the LW window, it is possible that it just will reduce itself to the system tray (or probably to the dock bar, if you have something like it ); that's if you have "Minimize to system tray" enabled. ![]()

To quit LW normally just use Apple command & Q keys (⌘ Q) OR find quit command under the LimeWire menu next to the apple menu. In osx when you quit, it simply quits, it doesn't go to the dock. ![]() ![]() |

![]() Thanks guys. You probably right Lord of the Rings. Maybe there’s nothing for me to worry about. I learn more about my mac. Thanks. I got a mac mini OS 10.3.9 and a self taught computer user and still learning my way around in computer world. As you’ve probably guess, this is my very first time in net ‘sharing’ thing. I’m just worried that joining the LW - my private files may get corrupted or I ended up getting those scary viruses I heard about. God forbid! I wouldn’t know what to do if it happen. I just hope that my LW only ‘share’ what I want to share. That’s all. As a fellow mac user, what do think Lord of the Rings - do I have something to worry about? Sorry foolofthehill, but mac is great. Easy to learn and use and very user friendly specially for someone like me. I find it hard to learn using window/pc because it seem too many things to click/deal with for just a simple task. Too complicated for not a computer savvy like me. Again. Many thanks. |

![]() AFAIK there are no known mac OSX viruses. So nothing to worry about there. And windows viruses don't affect mac. But I try to be careful not to downld windows viruses anyway & do keep an AV program handy to scan files in any case so I don't pass any viruses on. 99% of the virus definitions for my AV program are for windows & the other for mac os 9 & earlier. Don't forget to describe your files properly & meaningfully. You can do that with an id3 tag program or use LW's describe function. The best mp3 tagger for mac is Media Rage. Send my a personal message by clicking on my username & I can describe more about it. A well described file will make it easier to find in a search on the gnutella network. If there's anything in your LW Library you don't want to share, then control-click the file or folder & choose stop sharing. |
