Default why is LW suddenly opening CLASSIC?

I have been using LW version 4.12.11 for some time with no problems. (even though I preferred the older version) Two days ago, after completing a download, Limewire began to open Classic (os9) and it's version of iTunes. I quit classic since I am using OSX iTunes. The downloads didn not appear in my OSX iTunes folder. I have gone back to LW preferences and made sure that all the choices are the ones I want. Restarted and tried again, but LW continues to try to open Classic. Am ready to uninstall and put back the older version if there isn't a ready solution, but don't know how to uninstall 4.12.11. Any help on either of these two possible paths will be appreciated. I am runnning OSX version 10.3.9 w/512 ram -a few gigs of HD space left - DSL - from home - using AT&t internet service.
thanks

Make all audio file types the default of OSX iTunes. That includes, mp3, m4a, mp4, etc. Make sure when setting the default that you choose the correct iTunes program. eg: How to change default program in OSX (though that applies to video, it's the same principle.)

Personally I don't use Classic LW unless I've rebooted into OS 9. That's if you have a bootable OS 9.

Question iTunes opening classic

Dear Lord 0'......
Thanks for the response. I may not have been clear with my question as a first timer.
Limewire began opening Classic on it's own. This had never happened before. I DID go to Limewire preferences, and I also DID 'get info' and make your suggested entries, but they were NOT changes. These where the preferences and settings I have always been using.
I have never opened Classic iTunes or played any sound files thru Classic iTunes since I have had the computer, so I can't figure out why it began booting up.
At this point, nothing has changed, and so I am just not using limewire till I can get it all sorted out since I don't want to use Classic.
Do you have any other suggestions?
thanks

SAFE Boot & Repair Permissions which should be done after any installations or updates of any software including the system on your computer.

Also, try disabling Classic ... then re-enabling it. It sounds like iTunes is opening it up right?

I wonder if a re-installation of Java might be in order. It looks like the action in LW is pointing to the wrong iTunes for some reason. I do know it is or was possible to change the audio program that opens up when audio files are completed.

Other things to try, Rebuild OS 9 Desktop, start Classic & rebuild desktop.

The problem may even be iTunes itself. The newer versions of iTunes have caused a number of people including myself problems.

* Oh another thing to try is deleting the LW prefs folder whilst LW is CLOSED; found here /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire
