![]() I'm on a Mac G5. Trying to down load a tune. Out of the blue I am getting .exe files that want to download themselves instead of mp3 files. Help? What's up with that? ![]() Last edited by genr8torx; October 20th, 2007 at 04:22 PM. |

![]() Looks like some Window's viruses are pretending to be mp3's In the Filters part of the download window, you can select to only show mp3's Better yet, since you're on a Mac, in the Preferences, you can permanently Filter .exe's. |

![]() I'm on a g5 as well and I think the problem is Limewire has been sort of hacked and is getting flooded with bogus returns. You keep coming up with download play.exe right? The chances are the mp3 file you want isn't there and there's a server on a T3 connection that picks up your search, writes a text file that accommodates your search criterea and you have 500 or so returns back all with differing and average size files (that's scripted too), etc and sends you a viral exe file. You'll also notice that you can't browse the host, the bitrate is usually 768 and the floating text box contains text identical to the search text. Some open browsers windows and redirect you to porn sites. You can smack the keyboard and search that. The same thing happens. Also watch out for .wma viaa DSL that are called Top of the Charts 2003 or 2004, Wicked Remix and some others. They download really quicks and are dodgy. Just be glad you're not on a PC. ![]() I was wondering about the files Im downloading, some of them are program files and after I unzip the files on my G4 I am getting a file called Setup.exe Whats with that? Is that some type of virus your discussing before? Its not anything I can use. |

![]() dmg files are regular mac disk images, I don't recommend filtering them out if you are seeking program files. Many mac programs on p2p networks are now using zip. ALL exe files are windows only files. Setup is the installer. When seeking mac programs, try to find those that say for mac. ![]() eg: Spiller for mac.zip or Spiller for OSX.zip Else, seek out a good bittorrent site & go to the mac section. ![]() |

![]() Filtering those out are for if your not seeking programs. But if your filtering out stuff, might as well filter out exe. You can't use them on a Mac anyways, ![]() Hmm, I always though DMG's are like exe's for the mac. Guess I was wrong. Guess I should ![]() |

![]() I have the same problem, I use LimeWire for about I don't know like 6 years, but lately all I get is hidden in downloads for MAC those stupid exe files for windows. I have OX10.5 run LimeWire 4.12 for MAC, if I search I always put "MAC" or dmg in it, only sh....t I get. That is a real waste of time and download capacity. Oh I miss the time they where not zipped or what so ever, just showed the dmg so you new what you are downloading. And it seems no help here either to avoid the download of exe hidden. They also put for MAC in the name of the file and still only shows exe, so I guess they are just teasing Mac users those windows users. I don't know about mistakes that can sometimes happen, but out of 10 there are now 9 if not all 10 exe. So I ask myself who keeps himself busy with that. ![]() So even if you ask for MAC only, it wont work, still hidden exe, so try them all, trash all exe after nothing else left to do and mark them as spam, so maybe MAC users wont download ![]() |
