Default How do you run a games programme once downloaded?

I am new to the site as you can probably tell from my basic question. I can download videos, pictures etc and play them back perfectly ok but I wanted to get as an example ******* which I have obtained the file. This file is suffixed with .mpg. I am running on MacOSX 10.5 Leopard.
I do not know how now that I have got the file to install it on my machine. Please help?

.mpg is a movie file, so I suspect you ended up with spam or worse.

Many sites offer a demo version: test with that rather than some unknown source.

According to RuneSoft Dream Pinball Mac was supposed to be available last summer in a UB through TopWare Interactive Inc. - www.topware.com but doesn't look like the Mac version is listed. The PC version has a demo, so maybe send them an email asking about the availability of a Mac demo.

Thanks for the quick answer but I still wonder if I have a setting wrong which makes the download file have the .mpg as I downloaded the software using Turbo LimeWire only today. When you run a games programme what would you open it with on a Mac once downloaded?

Disk Copy (in your Utilities folder) can open .dmg files, the usual way mac programs are distributed.

There's no setting in LW or on the mac that would change the file extension.

But again, beware of files that show up in your results that don't have the proper extension: they are spam or worse.

To test this, try a LW "Any Type" search for "grspre .dmg" (or any made up name and a real extension). You should get lots of files coming back with the name 'right', but the extension and content will be junk.
