Red Incomplete Files - Since upgrading to 4.18.2 Pro

My first ever post so please excuse if I don't have the lingo correct. Have looked around previous posts & threads (an hour or so) but without finding a specific answer to my problem. Would appreciate your assistance
Have OSX 10.5.3 system and new Imac 24 - 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
Since upgrading to 4.18.2 any file that I commence downloading does indicate black and shared in the "Library" and downloads OK. When needing to close down (I normally cancel out all files from down loading). On restarting Limewire all the "incomplete" files are now red and are not shared (and if you want to resume indicate a 0% complete). I have tried the right clicking on the files with no success ("share file" is there in the drop down menu but is a non selectable option). One thing I have noticed is I have no .dat files ( i think that was what they were called, maybe another one as well) in the "incomplete" folder that I used to notice in my previous Lime Wire version not sure if this makes any difference. Can find all the incomplete files in the appropriate "incomplete" folder
Thanks in advance

Your method of cancelling all downloads before closing LW is a technique I haven't heard of before. Not sure it's a good method either but just IMHO.

Hover your cursor over your Saved Files folder & see which directory it says. Make sure it's the same as before. To check the downloads folder press the Explore button whilst selecting the Saved Files folder.

All the previous download history is stored in the Downloads.dat & Downloads.bak files. Without them LW will not see them as having any history or details of hash to recontinue them. You cannot see those files from within LW. You can only see those files from the OSX Finder. So Explore the incomplete folder. BTW red files in the incomplete folder means they are no longer recognised by LW's download preferences.

If you find the download folder has changed, then change it back using the option preferences which is first on list called Saving.

* You should not share incomplete files directly !!! They are useless to other people & annoy the heck out of them. ;)

Instead, turn on partial file sharing in the preferences options.

Red Incomplete Files - Since upgrading to 4.18.2 Pro

To Lord of the Rings - many thanks for the advice. Not yet out of the woods but

All my folders - Incomplete, Saved, Shared, Store Purchased are located in as independent folders in users/............../limewire/..............

I have located a downloads.dat file in Library/Preferences/Limewire but no downloads.bak - any clues??. Should I uninstall and reload 4.18.2??

Pardon my ignorance but what is BTW with respect to the Red files in the incomplete library that wont share

Regarding the cancel. Would you suggest when quitting Limewire you quit whilst files are still downloading??

Advice is appreciated

Reread what I said about the red files carefully. You should not share them as normal files in your download folder or other shared folders. Simply share them as partial downloads only.
Red incomplete files means for some reason LW has stopped functioning with them.

For quitting LW, I recommend in your system tray option to have it set to shutdown immediately, not set to shutdown after transfers. Also LW can take considerable time to close sometimes so give it 5 mins if needed.

Not sure why you'd find a downloads.dat file in the preferences folder, unless LW has changed the location for it in the newest version. I am still using LW 4.16 at present.

BTW if this is happening often, then get this utility: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...os-x-here.html which does same thing, backing up the LW download prefs, so this one should work properly. It did for me on my old computer. (Oh .. not sure if it is compatible with new intel computers though, but worth checking.)

Load of the rings - Thanks once again for your advice.

Can assure you I am not intentionally sharing the red files
The limewire backup utility doesn't seem to like the intel computers, does not do anything just sits there, when selecting set up - nothing registers or pops up - thanks anyway Just a note: on my old PowerPC running OSX10.4.11 - the utility does open and allows you to use the set up. No limewire on that machine now

You queried the location of the .dat file. Is there someone who is using 4.18.2 maybe could let me know where their downloads.dat and downloads.bak are located.
As mentioned previously I cant find a downloads.bak file anywhere on my computer........ should this be the case with 4.18.2

If all else fails I would prefer to dump the 4.18.2 and install the previous 4.16.? (is that possible when you download online - no cd) it didn't have any of these problems
