Limewire doesn't work (nor Frostwire

I've been trying to get LimeWire to work in Leopard 10.5.5, but although it downloads OK, I can't launch it and get a message Java.lang.unsatisfiedLinkError to come up. I've tried several suggestions from the forum but nothing works. Anyone have any ideas? I also tried Frostwire but the icon just bounces a bit and then disappears.
Cheers.

Have you tried setting up a new account & seeing if LW works there?

Have you done Java updates by checking software update option?

tstel December 30th, 2008 02:55 AM

Yes, I've tried both. I managed to download LW to a new account and it looked promising but in the end, LW wouldn't respond. I've also tried Java update a couple of times, and all seems well, but again neither LW nor Frostwire respond. (Office MAC update gets stuck looking for files to update also.) Not sure what to try next.

Thanks for your help!

Cheers!

Do you have any LW preferences folder yet?
It's found in your User account > Library > Preferences

Here's something to try:

download the attachment zip. Unzip it, select the unzipped folder & command i or select Get information from Finder file menu. Down bottom of Information window is permissions. Make sure your name is listed to both read & write. If not, add your name & change to read & write. click the button to the right of the +- button & apply it to all items inside folder.

Then drag & drop the com.apple.java.JavaPreferences.plist into the following folder: User account > Library > Preferences folder.

Check to see if there is a LimeWire folder inside the Preferences folder. If yes, then drag & drop each item inside the folder into the LW prefs folder.
If no, then wait.

Try & see if LW opens now.

Tried all the things suggested - still doesn't work.

I get a fatal error message as follows.
java.lang.unsatisfiedLinkError:/Applications/LimeWire/LimeWire.app/Contents/Resources/Java/libGrowlLeopard.jnilib:

Looks like something can't "connect".
Thanks for your help.

Do you have a second hard disk drive or partition?
If yes, install OSX onto there, try out LW or/& FW.

I was unable to run LW 4.18 on present OSX. I installed OSX onto a different drive & LW 4.18 & Alpha 5.0 run fine. ;)

No, I don't have that option. Have decided to postpone further efforts for the time being (until I have more time off the golf course to pursue the problem).
Thanks for all your help!

You could try using Phex instead. :) It's a great program, but its windows are not as 'new user' intuitive than LW's simple set up. But the program is just as good & has some functions such as file size filter which are very effective. :) http://www.gnutellaforums.com/phex-c...urn-infos.html
