Start at the beginning. 1. Which OSX version are you running?
2. What kind of mac? (G3, G4, G5, MacPro intel, iMac, etc.)
3. What speed processor?

Check the Receipts folder to see if any previous limewire is listed. For an example of what to look for, see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/mac-os...tml#post132073 If you see Install Limewire.pkg listed inside, then delete it, then try installing again.

I get the impression you are trying to install LimeWire on an older OSX version which the present LimeWire versions will not run or install on. Earlier installers: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/mac-os...link-here.html

the file that tells OS X that you have a newer version is in the Library/Receipts folder.

Look there for a "Install Limewire.pkg" or some name like that. It's safe to delete or move the file, and then older LW's will install.

Don't know if you or anyone else has run into this problem? I always like to have latest update and versions on my computer, so when limewire developed 5.0 I wanted to upgrade. Requirements were intel mac running 10.5.6 OS, which I have, I thought there would be no problem. Wrong. Would not install. Found that I have first generation intel imac and it only have 32 bit processor and Java 1.6 is not available to a 32 bit only a 64 so I must still use limewire 4.18.8 until something else developes.

Yes this is true unfortunately. Older version installers including the 4.18 version can be obtained from the download page via clicking on the 'Older Versions' link to the right side of the page. If you have problems installing due to the newer version, trash the LW 5 version & remove the instalimewire.pkg as suggested above. Receipts folder sample image

Red face thank you

I've spent all day trying to get limewire 5.0 and was unsuccessful. I joined this forum and found some answers. I now have 4.18 which is just fine...is there any particular copyright warnings I should heed?

Downloading copyright material is not allowed in most countries however, how your particular country views such is something you'd need to investigate personally. If you wish to take the risk that is a personal decision.

Many people turn off the license warning. lol Just makes it so much easier; License requirement (click on link)

Yes the new LW 5 is only compatible with the newer intel macs that are running Leopard OSX 10.5. This is a little confusing because mac has sold intel macs now for a few years but only the ones with 64-bit technology are compatible. Which means some intel laptops are not compatible & perhaps some of the early intel iMacs. Exactly which models I'm not sure about. Java 64-bit is the key issue which only runs in Leopard or later & on compatible mac machines.
