Nothing Happening After Running Installer What can i do to fix this as i rerun the installer and nothing new appears. Do i need another update first? What can i do to get my limewire back!! Thanks in advance |
Go to menu bar, under the GO menu, select Applications. Then look for LimeWire folder inside there. When you find it, open the folder, double-click the program to open it. :) Once it's open, control-click the LW icon in the Dock & choose to keep in Dock. That's where you will find it in future. :) BTW a keyboard shortcut to access your Applications folder is Command-SHIFT-A keys at same time. Command key is the one with an apple icon or the one that shows below. :) ⌘ SHIFT A |
thanks thats helped but in my limewire folder the limewire icon is not their it has a big see through circle with a line through it. when i click on this it says "You cannot open the application LimeWire because the Classic environment is no longer supported" Any more help guys? |
is your computer a 64 bit intel machine? if not then it's not compatible with LW 5. Best to downgrade to LW 4.18 Lime Wire » Download Out-Of-Date Installers If problems installing then remove install limewire.pkg from receipts folder in library. :) Receipts folder sample image |
I am not sure i am using the an imac Mac OS X 10.5.6 With a 2.8Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor Is the processor my main problem? |
I have reinstalled the older version of limewire but would like the newer updated version could you tell me how to check to see if it is a 64 bit ... whatever the things called... :) Thanks in advance nd for all your help so far :) |
Easiest way to know is go to Java preferences & see if Java 1.6 (6) is listed. If it is, move it up the hierarchy; Setting up Java for Leopard. Java 6 only runs on 64-bit machines. :) |
Your help has been brilliant so far thanks very much I now have done it all have all the requirements but for some reason when i open the limewire folder in my applications the limewire image is not their it is a see through circle through some documents. When i try to open this it comes up saying "You can't open the appliation "LimeWire" because the Classic environment is no longer supported" any ideas what i can do? |
1 Attachment(s) I've seen that reported before. Either means you have accidentally downloaded the OS 9 Classic installer v.4.0.x or your computer does not support Java 6. To check, go to Java's preferences & see if Java 1.6(6) is listed. If Java 6 is listed, move it to the top of list. Setting up Java for Leopard. Keep in mind LimeWire 5 only runs with Java 1.6. If you do not have Java 1.6 then use the appropriate operating system version for your system: Lime Wire » Download Out-Of-Date Installers but do not choose the bottom one on list which is the Classic OS 9 one. Image below is choices for old versions, the top one being 4.18.8 http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...ic-choices.gif Below is typical error received when attempting to run an OS 9 installer or program (the cross through the program icon means it cannot be opened): http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...-env-error.gif . |
Right i definitely have the correct Java and i am definitely downloading the correct installer but the same problem is happening... any ideas? |
I'm stumped. Have you checked to see if any OSX updates? Have you repaired permissions after a safe boot? SAFE Boot & Repair Permissions So LW 5 installs but the actual program as a cross through it? I'd have thought your imac would be ok. Perhaps a problem with the original OSX installation which I believe is what my problem was. I think mine needs a fresh install wiping drive at same time. I did archive installs last year to no avail for LW 5. But my LW 5 works fine in a different OSX installation on a different drive. Only answer I can think of is downgrading to LW 4.18. To do that you will need to remove install limewire.pkg file from the Receipts folder. Receipts folder sample image What happens with LW 4.18 & 5 on my main OSX: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...-dead-nail.gif; not even a multi-bounce, simply dead. |
I have done all this java 6 is at the top of the list im using OSX 10.5.6 I have a 64 bit intel machine i am downloading the limewire 5 installer for my operating system and it still isnt working as far as i can see this is the only program which does this and wont work but will install.. Is there anyway you can find out more without me having to downgrade because i have heard great reviews about the new one i will use the older version now as it is all i have Thanks anyway :) |
It's my guess the problem is similar to my system. I am unable to run LW 4.18 or LW 5 on my main OSX system. Despite doing a few OSX archive re-installs last year, that did not solve the problem. I used my old bootcamp partition for windows & reformatted it. Installed OSX onto it. Installed LW 4.18 & it worked fine. Installed LW 5 when it came out, worked fine ever since. So something was wrong with my original OSX installation. So last year I should probably have done an "Erase and Install" instead on my main OSX. I just didn't wish to have to go thru the pain of backups, reinstalling all softwares again. Perhaps that is not your problem. Set up another account, a test account: Setting up a Test Account in OSX (click on link). Try opening LW from there. Also try SAFE Boot & Repair Permissions. You could try reinstalling OSX using the combo updates; Apple - Downloads - Mac OS X - Mac OS X Updates or alternatively a java update: Apple - Downloads - Mac OS X - Application Updates. This used to be a fix for OSX 10.4 & earlier, but not sure if it works for Leopard. There seems to be no OSX or Java receipt files either. I just tried the last Java update, seemed to install ok. BTW should normally repair permissions after installing any software, especially system software such as OSX updates or Java & some other 3rd party program updates. ;) |
thanks dont know how did the test account thing and it started to work on my main account thanks for all your help problem solved somehow :S lol :) |
lmao .. excellent great to hear. :) And many thanks for letting us know it worked out .. somehow lol :D |
